	Log in to remove this advertisement I have been thinking about opening up a trading card shop for a while now. I only collect old pokemon/yugioh cards now, so I've really never been to any tourneys or very many card shops. So, in your opinion, what are some aspects of a good and successful card shop? Also, if you have any other tips, let me know! Thanks! PS: I didn't know where to post this so please just give me tips without complaining on where it was posted. Thanks!

	You'll probably want to broaden your scope a bit to include other sorts of collectibles, just to cover all potential customer bases that would visit your site/store.

	Ok thanks. I was thinking about an actual physical store front. Also, the question was kinda for like what things make up a good card shop. Like what's the layout like? What do I need to have (merchandise and display styles)? So its more for stuff like that. But thanks!

	Good deals, good online store. Base set cards, I.E original, first released sets of cards. I just watched an original Charizard Pokemon card sell on eBay in it's last few seconds for $1200. -------------------

	I wouldn't. Hobby shops don't see much success any more and all the local ones have closed. Even the ones that offered tourneys for a small fee every week. ------------------- Check out the Android Forum!

	Know your market. Is there a local demand for card shops? Are there other card shops? If not maybe because there is very little demand for them. Maybe its just a business that hasn't been discovered locally and will be successful. You have to try figure that out. It's always a bit of a risk. Is there enough customer base in your local area to give you enough income? Will you need to offer other products or services as well as cards just so you can stay afloat? Also opening a physical store and an online store will increase you potential customer base by tens of millions.

	Ok thanks. What do you guys think about the layout of the shop and how things should be displayed? Also, what do you guys think about me also selling old video games likeN64, gameboy, NES, SNES, and stuff like that. Maybe specializing in all pokemon stuff but also have other companies? Just a thought. Now what do you guys think?

	The local shop I used to go to, the guy was having a pretty harsh time. The industry isn't what it used to be. He sold sports cards, comics, MTG/Pokemon/YGO cards, Warhammer 40k stuff, boardgames, and had frequent tournaments / releases for the CCG's; all of that just to stay afloat. Good luck though if you decide to get into the business though, I think local shops like this are great. I think location is key too, try looking at locations near schools so you get traffic from kids when school is over. -------------------

	Ok. Thanks about the tip on the location near a school. Another thought of mine was contacting pokemon and seeing the road to take to open a pokemon center. What do you think of this?

	Y'know, I would honestly open an eBay store. Forget my other reply. You won't believe how easy it is to get started on eBay, and once you make enough cash you can open your own eBay store. More people are choosing to go this way, and also, a lot of people have a location and an online eBay shop. Good luck! -------------------

What do you mean Pokemon Center? Pokemon centers are just HUGE pokemon stores. They sell everything. They only exist in japan right now. The nintendo world store in NYC used to be a pokemon center, but it closed and converted into the nintendo store. Do a youtube search for pokemon center japan and see how awesome they are. So I was kinda wondering if i could contact nintendo or pokemon and inquire about opening one here.
