Phobias: What is/are yours? - Page 7

I think I might have a phobia of large dogs. I've never thought of myself as having any crippling fears, but if I had to name one, that'd have to be the worst.

I really love dogs, but I've had a few bad experiences in the past (such as being chased around a park by a huge vicious thing that tackled me to the ground before its owner teared it away from me).

I don't mind most dogs, but I kinda lock up around the big mean ones.

I don't have any phobias

Boy, I have A LOT, But my main ones are Heights, Tractor Trailer Trucks and Pain~

Pictures and footage of space creep me out, particularly of Earth from space. Space itself is far too big and empty for me.

I can quite happily stare up at the moon and stars from the safety of our planet (I often do this actually), but I can't really bring myself to look at video footage and pictures from space.

I am an astronomy and Cosmology fanatic, but the strange thing is i do get what you are saying. I am obsessed with space and am a member of NASA's Galaxy project (http://www.galaxyzoo.org/) so spend a great deal of time looking at space images and i too sometimes feel that fear. Its a sort of overwhelming smack of reality for me, a realisation about the true bizarre, violent and indescribably massive nature of our universe. Its comfortingly humbling though. My interest outweighs my fears by a factor of millions.

I cant explain why but i do actually love that feeling, its one of many things that draws me back in time and again. I guess its like someone who suffers from a fear of heights feeling drawn towards the edge of a cliff. Something i know all too well.

I think that kind of fear is well justifiable. The reality of it is we are completely at the mercy of the cosmos. It could end us in a heartbeat. Perhaps we should fear it. But we should also be grateful for it and strive to understand it. I often go with that fear and let my mind run wild with it. I cant explain why. I guess i like the idea that our little faith based race who puts so much importance on our purpose and reason for being here could be anhialated by what amounts to a fraction of a cosmic fart. I dont know why i get comfort from that.
