First Game

We all came into the world of video games one way or another. For some it might've been because of an older brother or sister playing games and it caught us into it, and for others it might be the media or playing a demo at a retail store. We all have different stories, how did you get sucked into the world of gaming? What was your first game?

I got into gaming back during the early 90s, it all started with the classic NES title, Super Mario Brothers, my brother had an NES and the game and I got into it. Spent countless hours dying in the game. I can't honestly remember if I ever beat it due to the inability to save(let's face it they make games too easy nowadays) and having to restart from the very beginning. After that everything took off from there, wether it was classics like Sonic the Hedgehog(admit it sonic doesn't compare to this nowadays with the exception of Sonic 4) to big blockbusters like Halo 4.

It was a dual game cart that had Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr on it. Naturally I went with Donkey Kong first.Strange that now the game seems so basic but back then I loved it. Sadly I don't think I have the game itself anymore and my NES doesn't work (although I do still have the console somewhere).

I'm not really sure what set me onto computer games in the first place though. It wasn't a family thing because I'm really the only person in the family this much into video games, and back then none of my family had any interest. Well, except they couldn't say no to a four year old. I think that's why my mother has an interest now, or at least a contributing factor.

That's nothing compared to Super Mario Bros. 3. Eight massive worlds and no save function. I remember having to dedicate large portions of time if I wanted to actually get through to the end without using warp whistles.

Heh my first game.. I can't actually remember what it was, but it was definitely a game on the Nintendo 64

I'm not sure if this was the first game I played, as events from when I was a whee lad often get jumbled order wise, but the first time I remember getting really into a game was at my uncles apartment, he had his computer set up with a MAME emulator, and damn if I didn't think that rampage was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Insanity Prevails, just because games are simple doesn't mean they are fun. Alot of the games that come out nowadays are not the same as they used to be. Unlike some games such as Zelda, most of these games seem to be way shorter. I don't understand how some games I could play for months and not beat but nowadays you can go a mere couple of days and complete a game. Could it be that they were harder or that we have gotten better? A question one might ask themselves.

I think they used to be harder. The graphics were simple so game designers were forced to make an interesting story line and made it take longer so you would keep playing. Now everything has an online multiplayer and crazy graphics where nothing is copy/pasted so they don't care if you can beat it in a day.

For example, my mom used to work at Blockbuster which was amazing because I got movies two week before they came out and, on one occasion, got to play a game the day before it came out. I got home from school and my mom handed me Halo 2 and said, "Do your homework first!" Obviously I did it as fast as I could (and got a horrible grade XD) so I could play Halo 2 before anyone else could.

Anyways, I played it and then all of a sudden I realize I'm almost done with the game. I quit playing so I could go to bed and woke up and beat it the next morning. It was fun and all but I was so mad that I had beat it before anyone could play it lol


But my first game system was a Sega Genesis and/or a Sega Game Gear. I don't remember how old I was or which I played first but I do remember playing the shit out all the old Sonic games.

Why do I feel so young after seeing that console and knowing that the NES was the first one I ever played with?

I still get thrills from playing Sonic 2 and Sonic CD on XBox. I still haven't beat Sonic CD (I am stuck at Metallic Madness Act 3 via boss, I've done it before, but I forgot how).
