Class Rings, Class Jewelry..

I know some people get their class rings as a reminder that they passed some sort of a hard stage in live, such as high school or college. However I have always considered these things to be a complete waste of money and they are extremely highly priced. How do you feel about class rings? Is there any reason that anyone should get them? As memorabilia or something else?

I ended up getting my class ring from high school when I graduated simply because my dad was bothering me to do it. Even though I kept saying that I considered it a waste of money and I would probably stop wearing it after some point..it did happen. I rarely wear it nowadays, but when I did atleast I got complements on how nice the stone looked which is the only thing I enjoyed about it.

My mom wanted me to get class jewelry when I graduated high school, so I got a necklace but it tarnished fast and I can't wear it. Which is fine I didn't like it anyway.

I think it's okay to get class jewelry though if it's a college or something. High school doesn't seem like it's such a big thing that you should show off something from there. College maybe or depending on a persons situation it could be a very nice thing to have. Like for me I wont mind getting class jewelry when I graduate from CSU because I'll be the first one in my family who has completed any college and university. But when I graduated high school and got the necklace I felt like it was a waste. Probably more so now because it didn't even last.

I've never heard of this, as far as I know we don't do this over here so it sounds rather strange to me that your father made you participate in it.

I think that if you want one of these rings then get one, but certainly nobody should be pressuring you into it if you don't. You've got all your memories and your qualifications from school, you don't need a ring to certify you've been there.

Whatever happened to just getting a year book? Honestly, that is enough to remind me of my school days... granted ours came on DVDs which isn't quite the same, but to me a class ring is pointless.

Mind you, in the UK we don't really have class rings.

Perhaps he thought you'd regret it if you didn't, some people think of things like this as more sentimental than others, clearly it meant more to him than you.

Like my graduation next month, my mother has insisted I get professional photography of the day done and thinks I'll be missing out and regret it if I don't. Well sure, maybe I will change my mind but right now I'd prefer the £150 in my pocket and some normal snaps of the day. If it's the wrong choice I've only myself to blame and I'm not going to cry over it.

I got a class ring this year, my first year of high school, and while I was kinda afraid I would never want to wear it, I wear it pretty much every day. The fact that I was able to design it myself really helps with that, and nowadays my hand feels naked without it there. Just my two cents.
