I'm currently walking whilst texting this. No danger here. But thanks for your unappreciated concern, as it is not needed. I could cross a road with a phone in my hand, and just did then. This is a money-grabbing scam by the government, nothing more, nothing less.

Look, i'm not the kind of person that is overly concerned about this sort of stuff, but there's a lot to be said about being attentive to one's present concerns at the moment, and focusing on one particular thing at a time. It certainly wouldn't hurt you to put down the phone for five minutes while you move from one place to another. Even if it isn't dangerous, it's often an inconvenience to others, because they have to go out of their way to look out for you, walk slowly behind you because you're too zoned in on your phone, and not being focused on the task at hand (namely moving yourself one place to another).

Just saying, but you're probably blissfully unaware to how much of an inconvenience you're actually probably being. I know for a fact that I've had to look out and move around people, or give people a heads up to pay attention to something before they ran into it or got hit by something. Sure, maybe you're different, maybe you really can pay attention and text, but most can't, and common sense sort of dictates that if you're not paying attention, you're probably less attentive to what's going on around you, and more likely to miss something that does pose a danger to you. It's not my job to look out for you, and it shouldn't be, but you kids who can't put your phone down for two minutes are often so wrapped up in whatever you're texting on your phone, that you often put others in a position where they have to look out for you.

I mean really, do you need to be plugged in all the time? Don't you ever want to not be connected? Or am I just crazy?

Another Bullshit law that's stupid as hell. So now we have jay-walking while texting to add up to the Stupid laws hand-book. Its right under weed being illegal, and People needing to be 18 to drink...

People shouldn't be texting while walking outside just like they shouldn't be blasting music outside. You need to be fully aware of your surroundings. Yeah, to a degree you can determine when the curb is coming up and to probably look up every now-and-then. But you're still not 100% attentive with your face buried in your phone. You know, it's funny when an accident happens and a person is quick to point fingers instead of taking responsibility for their own actions. Not too long ago a friend of mine hopped a fence to retrieve a handball that landed under a set of railroad tracks. He looked both ways to see if there were any trains coming, but he didn't hear the one that would soon after hit him because he had headphones on at full volume. Luckily he survived and was just knocked out after slamming his head up against a rock. This doesn't have to do with texting and walking but the same concept of needing to hear and look applies. Good for New Jersey.

However, I'm positive there are far more important issues the New Jersey government should be looking into.

See I was going to type a message up for this thread but you just said exactly what I wanted to say.

I think it has it's uses but overall I find it to be ridiculous.

Great. Another rules passed that affects almost eveyone but is only needed to help protect a handful of idiots.

Wht if you are using you phone as a map to get to a location. Will you get fined.

I think its perfectly fine. It shouldn't be necessary, but unfortunately it is, as alot of people are just plain stupid. Of course I feel that anyone stupid enough to actually do this deserves to be hit by the car anyway.

How did those 20 people get hit anyway? I know you're not looking where you're going, but couldn't you tell that you stepped off of the sidewalk? Or hear the cars driving in the street a few feet in front of you?
