Are there any words or phrases you used incorrectly for a long time, and when/how did you find out you were mistaken? Until I was about 18 I used to say "round of a claws"

Are there any common grammar mistakes that personally annoy you? Here are some that annoy me:

'Could of' rather than 'could've' or 'could have'
'I could care less' rather than 'I couldn't care less' (seems to be Americans who do this)
'Compared to' rather than 'compared with'
The so called 'grocer's apostrophe' - at work the other day I saw several boxes each labelled with 'bag's' -_____- (if in doubt leave it out)

I think it was in 5th grade, or before that: I was writing a summary for English class. I really wanted to use the word "ultimatum," but I wasn't familiar with it, so I wrote "altomato." I was a little embarrassed when I saw the correction from my teacher, but at least I learned something .

I imagine this happens a lot with song lyrics, sometimes it just hard to make out what some singers are actually saying

here's a couple for you EvilTediz597; in 'Everchanging spectrum of a lie' I used to think that Ritzy was saying 'we take form in Incan blood' instead of 'ink and blood', and in 'Anemone' I swear it sounds like she's saying 'the rest is fame', when she's supposedly saying 'the restless flame' :I

There has been a few, but now I cannot remember them. One thing I used to think for longest time the word "wheelbarrow". I thought it was called wheelbarrel for a while (mostly because of the wheels on them).

This can also be dipping into misheard lyrics in which it should. I'll never forget my friend thought the lyrics to Gnarls Barkley song on this verse, "give me you emotions and egg roll so much plates", when really it's "even your emotions had an echo in so much space". He also thought the group was Gorillaz and the song was called "Gnarls Barkley".

I remember getting told off at school when I said "I can't be asked" to a foreign supply teacher, she wouldn't believe it was "asked" and not "arsed".

But it is, generally speaking, "arsed". Hence why people all over UK and US, regardless of accent pronounce it as such. You never hear "can't be asked" where the "a" sounds like it does in "apple".

I don't think I really ever goofed on some words. I have a speech issue that if I talk too fast, I good on the pronunciation, but the correct words come out. As a server and bartender, I've always thought it was funny when people order Jim Bean when it's Jim Beam.
