Postman Jailed for Killing Cat

Ugh, there's not much that I read in the news these days that genuinely sickens me anymore but this is unfortunately one of them:

Alan Vincent repeatedly bashed the lid down on the ‘screeching’ cat before throwing it over an 8ft garden hedge and leaving it to die ‘a horrible death’, a court was told.

Vincent, from Feltham, West London, was jailed for six months after being found guilty of causing unnecessary animal suffering.

Honestly I have no idea what compels a person to do something like this to an animal many times smaller than them. I can't even kill flies or wasps which are annoying me; I put them in a container and release them outside. I can't even imagine what mentality a person must have in order to do something like this.

I think this is a good victory for the RSPCA anyway. It's rare I see people prosecuted and jailed for killing animals like this and I fully believe he deserves his 6 month sentence. Perhaps this was too lenient, considering he'll be out in half that anyway.

That said, some of the comments linked to that article condoning or glorifying violence, or even murder, towards him do make me feel a little uncomfortable.

This disgusts me. How can someone even think of killing an animal like that? I'm a cat owner myself and the thought of someone ever doing that to her is disgusting and I would want that person to pay for what they did. He deserves to sit in jail for what he's done, though it should be more than six months.

I dont like cats, but i sure as hell wouldnt injure or kill one.

Maybe someone should just smash his head in a bin lid, then launch him over an 8ft fence. I'll volunteer.

Damn right it should be for more than 6 months. Killing is killing, it shouldn't matter who or what was killed, should all serve the same sentence imo. Years rather than months, at least.

See, that's exactly the type of comment which makes me feel uncomfortable.

I think regardless of what he's done, and it was truly horrific let me be clear on that, acting in a similar fashion to him would be rather hypocritical. I also think people who condone taking his life, as some of the comments in the linked article were insinuating, have a warped sense of perception. Killing an animal in this way is certainly not right, but is it something he deserves to lose his life for? Do some people genuinely believe that? Cuz I don't get that line of thought.

Ehh, first of all i wasnt being perticularly serious. It was just an exajurated way of showing my displeasure at his actions. I think statements such as "thats terrible" or "poor cat" are a bit obvious and a complete waste of a post.

Second of all i dont think smashing someones head in a bin lid and throwing them over an 8ft fence would kill them. A cat ? Yes, but a human ? I mean thats gotta a big bin lid.

To be quite honest, it baffles me how people can get so angered over this, and then happily eat an animal who's spent its life in misery and pain. Does it not count if you don't see it, or it's not fluffy, or if it's only one person doing it instead of everyone being complicit?

I'm not trying to be inflammatory here; I'm honestly confused. Part of the reason I stopped eating meat was because being angered over things like this made me feel like a hypocrite. Does it not look like that from over there?

There's a slight difference in the senseless killing of an animal to the killing of an animal to provide (and I doubt the postman intended to eat it after he was done). While it may seem hypocritical, it's ignorant to assume people can't protest against animal abuse while still choosing to eat meat. Eating meat is a lifestyle choice, the beating and abuse of animals isn't. We can't tell the lives these animals led up til their death. While I'm certain not all of them were properly cared for, we also can't assume the majority squandered in agony before their untimely death. I guess living in a rural area such as where I do, I can delight in knowing where all my meat has come from when we shop at our local butchers, which supplies local meat from free-range farmers, I understand other people don't have that satisfaction. Point still stands though.

Wow!!! Just yesterday, when I was taking my girlfriend to work, the car in front of the guy that was ahead of me threw a baby kitten out the window, the guy was going over 55 mph. I almost crashed into a power pole trying to dodge the little guy. People suck now days.
