Damn, 2K! The Bureau: XCOM Declassified isn't even out yet and we're starting to hear rumors of an XCOM: Enemy Unknown sequel? You're really going to ride this thing out, aren't you? A Korean ratings board has just teased the title of what's likely to be a sequel to the hugely popular tactical game XCOM: Enemy Unknown named XCOM: Enemy Within. The now rumored project is listed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
That's not to be mistaken for The Evil Within, which as far as we know contains no aliens or grid-based tactical combat. Yet.
Considering how wildly successful XCOM: Enemy Unknown was, due in large part to its less than AAA budget, a sequel is not surprising in the least. In fact, I find it rather brilliant that 2K is trying to fill the void between games not with inane DLC, but with another game that's tied to the universe, but provides a completely different experience.
All of the content of this article is of course rumor at this point. Until the official word comes from 2K or Firaxis there is no game known as XCOM: Enemy Within. However, considering our experience with the franchise, it's not to difficult to guess there may be something lurking just beyond the range of our sight.
