The Sims 2 or The Sims 3

Personally, I find The Sims 2 better than The Sims 3. Sims 3 just seems too community based. There's too much going on in the background than I'd like to. Sure it's cool you get to visit your neighbors, but I'd prefer it to play just one family at a time.

So it's really up to you. I suggest watching some youtube clips and maybe some video reviews and see if The Sims 3 is your cup of tea.

You do know that you can turn off story mode, right?

For the longest time I thought I was going to prefer The Sims 2, until I actually played the Sims 3.

3 is way less buggy, let's face it. The system for personality is superior IMO. The main thing was, I thought that losing the system of wants and fears from The Sims 2 would make things a lot worse. But it actually got better, I wasn't aware of moodlets until I actually played the game. I think moodlets is the best idea ever for the series and I hope they never go away.

The Sims 3 is good graphics wise- that is it really. The Sims 2 has so much more content, replayability (shh, that's a word now), not to mention it's a lot longer until you feel that you've completed a single person (all jobs got to max, maxed out friends, several businesses, biggest house in the neighbourhood, several lifetime wishes completed, etc etc.

I have both, but I prefer The Sims 2...
The sims 2 you can play for hours, but sims 3 even with expansions is just not as fun. Sims 2 also has much lower system requirements and the games come with alot more new things.
But I do like how you can customize eye/hair/skin color
