_____________________________________________ [ Frequently Asked Questions ]
Signatures
- Q: Where can I change/make my signature?
A: To make a signature for yourself, click on prefs in the top right-hand corner of the page and enter what you wish to have in the box marked "signature". Click "finish" at the bottom of the page when done, and your new signatue will be appended to all forum postings that you make.
- Q: I see some people have cool banners in their sig, how do I insert banners/images in my sig?
A: To be able to have a image in your signature, it must be uploaded to the Internet. Take a look at this thread for assistance in signing up and uploading images to some of the most popular free image hosting services..
- Q: After inserting a signature, I find that it is not being appended to my posts. Why is this?
A: When at the screen where you type your posts out, you will notice 4 tickboxes just under the actual box where you type your post. For your signature to be appended, make sure the "Append signature to this post [ members only ]" box is checked before posting.
- Q: Is there any limit on signatures?
A: Yes, there is a 'signature weighing system' employed. Your signature can be no more that 255 in weight. Take a look here for more information on the system, and how it operates.
- Q: Are image dimensions/sizes limited at all?
A: Banner sizes are currently limited to a maximum of 125 pixels in height and 575 pixels in width. Additionally, the size of the image must not exceed 40kb.
- Q: Where can I get a banner for my signature made for me?
- Q: What is the correct markup to put images in my signature?
A: The markup for images is as follows:
If you need further help regarding this, check out the Markup Documentation under the "Posting and Linking Images" section.
my.neoforum
- Q: What is my.neoforum and how can I access it?
A: my.neoforum is like the central hub available to members that allows you to view things such as a list of your favorite forums showing when the last post was made, a list of your friends on Neoseeker with convenient links that allow you to PM them easily, your post history, any threads you are subscribed to and a basic breakdown of the contents of your NeoPM inbox. This can be accessed at any time by clicking the "my.neoforum" link that can be found in the top left-hand corner of most Neoseeker pages.
- Q: How do I add a favorite forum?
A: Navigate to the forum that you wish to add, then look at the bottom of the page right under the last thread listed and just above the "POST NEW MESSAGE" link. You should see a "Add Favourite Forums" link; simply click this and the forum will appear within your neo.forum.
- Q: How do I remove favorite forums?
A: Next to any favorite forums listed you'll see a checkbox to the right of it. Put a tick next to the forums you wish to have removed then press the "Remove Selected" button in the bottom right-hand corner where your favorite forums list ends.
- Q: How can I add someone to my Neo Friends list?
A: On the right hand side of the my.neoforum page will be a "NeoFriends" section. Simply click the "Add a New Friend" link there and type the name of the person you wish to add then confirm.
- Q: How can I remove someone from my Neo Friends list?
A: Tick the little box that appears to the right of their name and click the "Remove Selected" button at the bottom of your friends list.
- Q: What does the
icon next to listed Neo Friends do?
A: That will search your NeoPM inbox for any NeoPMs received from the friend who's name is next to the icon.
- Q: What is the my.threads function used for?
A: You can subscribe to threads in the forums by pressing the "Subscribe" button within the options while in a thread. Any threads you have chosen to subscribe to will appear here. You can chose whether or not to receive email alerts when the thread has been posted in from this control panel also.
- Q: What is the my.post.history link?
A: The my.post.history link found within my.neoforum will take you to a page showing every single post and thread you've made on the site since you joined. Links will also be supplied too, allowing you to go back and take a look at them.
Avatars
- Q: How do I get one of those small pictures that others have under their name?
A: These are referred to as 'avatars'. To upload/change your avatar, click prefs in the top right-hand corner of the screen, then click Edit your profile pic (avatar) here just under the 'signature' box. You should now have a page with 'interests', 'biography' and finally 'profile photo'. Scroll down to 'profile photo' and click the 'browse' button. Select the image you wish to use as your avatar from your computer (must be 65X65 in dimensions and 15KB or less in file size) and click the 'finish' button at the bottom of the page. The image will be uploaded, and it will appear under your name in your forum postings.
- Q: Do I need to have a certain number of posts before I can get an avatar?
A: Not at all. The avatar is available to members right from the outset.
- Q: What are the restrictions/limits for avatars?
A: Avatars must be 15KB or less in file size, and 65X65 pixels or less in image size. They must also be in .gif or .jpg format.
- Q: After changing avatars, I notice my old one is still on my posts. Why?
A: Your avatar always has the same URL no matter how many times you upload a different picture. Since you're uploading it directly to Neoseeker, Neoseeker always designates it with your own personal avatar URL. When your browser loads a Neoseeker page and goes to load your avatar, it notices that it already has an image cached for that URL. Thus instead of connecting to the URL and loading the new image, it just takes the image out of its cache and places it there to speed things up. Clearing your cache or hitting Ctrl+F5 will force your browser to re-download everything on the page, including your new avatar.
- Q: I can't find an avatar to use. Are there any sites on the Internet that give them away?
- Q: Is there anywhere on Neoseeker that I can request for someone to make me an avatar?
A: Head over to the Graphics Request Thread in the Graphics and Animation forum. There are many talented grapic artists there willing to offer their services.
- Q: Someone has stolen my avatar, what do I do?
A: If you have obtained the avatar from a public website that offers avatars to other people for free, then the person that is sharing the avatar with you is perfectly entitled to do so. You could NeoPM the person and request it's removal because you are using it, but no official action could be taken by the administration, not can they be forced to remove it.
If the avatar was made by yourself, or someone else made it for you, then the other person has no right to use it. Firstly, NeoPM the person who is using it, and request that it is removed. If they ignore/refuse to remove it, contact a supermoderator ensuring that you provide transcripts of the PMs exchanged. Only do this AFTER attempting to resolve the issue with the person in private as 9 times out of 10 the person will apologize and remove the avatar without the need to make an official complaint.

- Q: I have seen people underlining words, making words into links and changing the color of their text. How do they do this?

- Q: How do I become a Neoseeker moderator?
A: Take a read here. Simply put, you do not apply to be a moderator anymore. Instead, the supermoderators will choose you to be a moderator if they see that you are the best candidate to moderate a forum. If you have any questions about moderating, please ask them here.

A: If you direct your attention to the top of the screen, you will notice a link named "my.neoforum" in the top left. Click that to see a list.

- Q: What is 'privacy mode' and how do I use it?
A: 'Privacy mode' makes you appear offline to other members. There are two types of privacy mode, the straight "Privacy Mode" which you appear offline to everyone and the "Neofriends only" mode which only lets people you have added to your Neofriends list see your online status. To use, simply click prefs in the top right-hand corner of the screen, and scroll down to "Privacy Settings". You can select your option from there.
- Q: I sometimes see text appearing under thread titles in forums, how do I get text like that under my thread?
