Command & Conquer: Generals 2 was recently renamed Command & Conquer, if you didn't notice. Anyway, besides going free to play, it's also not going to have a single player campaign -- at least not at launch. According to BioWare Victory general manager John Van Canegham, this is something that will be determined by post-launch feedback; as a "live" game, they feel more free to leave some things off to the side until they're demanded.

Competitive and co-operative skirmishes will serve as the heart of the game, at least for awhile, and going with that, e-sports features will be supported. Though no specifics have been laid out, Canegham says, "You can basically make a list of the assumed ones that you’d need to be an e-sports game, and it’s definitely part of the plan.” (Think support for spectator, shoutcasting, and tournaments)
