Torment. By Todd McFarlane

Im really surprised this one wasnt one of the unlockable comics. This is probably the greatest Lizard story that Ive read.

Granted, it did involve Calypso working her voodoo on the Lizard to get him to go on that rampage, but still it was a pretty epic throwdown and for a page or two it actually looked like Spidey was pushed so far as to kill the Lizard lest he die first.

Ended up being a take on the end of Die Hard though. Dude hanging by his neck from chains...looks dead, next thing you know....BOOM! Not dead!

Loved this book.

I feel like any money they pay McFarlane in regard to Spider-Man is money well spent. He got knocked as a poor writer, but the dude was just starting out. Other complaints were that his stories werent very good because he was just telling a story where he would have lots of cool stuff to draw. I never really minded that. To me the badassery of his Spider-Man artwork far outweighed any issues I had with his storytelling.

Anyway, if Im looking for compelling storytelling, I usually go for a novel. Comic books for me require more visual satisfaction for me than mental. After all, what's the point in writing a comic book if your artwork sucks?

Spawn comics were pretty cool. The HBO animated series that starred Keith David as the voice was pretty damn sweet.

However, the movie adaptation was probably in the top five of my biggest movie letdowns Ive ever seen in my life. Just horrible. I mean how can you take a Hard R rated story and try to turn it into a PG 13 film? Such a wasted opportunity. John Leguizamo nailed the Clown character. He was perfect. Spawn looked great and the cape was awesome. It was just way too watered down.

I just couldnt believe what they did to it. McFarlane was even in the movie as a homeless guy in the alley. I cannot fathom how he let this happen unless he was just blinded by dollar signs.
