E3 Videos!

HOLY KRAP.

Those are some badass videos right there. Far better than anything Id seen before. This game is going to rock so hard. I cannot wait for 6/26.

I really dont think its going to be a question of whether or not it stands up to Web Of Shadows. I love that game. Technical issues and all, but this.... This isnt even the same ballpark. Hell, its not even the same planet.

Seriously. Beenox CANNOT screw this up for me. I think it would be debilitating and life-altering.

This would be the most legendary letdown of my gaming history if the game falls on its ass.

Watching more and more coverage though, I dont think it will be. While I dont expect it to be what Arkham City was, I do think its going to be the best Spider-Man game so far. Perhaps the "Arkham Asylum" of the Spider-Man franchise. Damn good, but not quite the masterpiece that Arkham City is.

Im a little bummed that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone wont be voicing their characters, but as long as it isnt the guy from WoS voicing Spidey I think we're gonna be good here.

Looking at the Web Rush, its cool but I think its just a little overhyped in the navigation department. Some of the Web Rushes initiated from high up just looked kinda like a matrixed out superman move with not much variation in the animations. However, the ability to land precisely where you intend EVERY TIME cannot be discounted. I cant tell you how often I would overshoot a car in a car chase and look like a complete noob having to chase it down again.

In combat, it definately looks like fun with what was shown and its said that Web Rush moves are upgradeable through XP for even cooler and more devastating combat moves.

Dee Brown did confirm that there will be several alternate suits playable for the game, but he would not commit to which ones were in, other than to say that a few of the suits have never been seen before in any previous Spider-Man title.

Im also liking the prospect of the digital photo album, where you can basicly snap photos anytime you want and save them for looking at later on. Im already seeing a nice album full of thugs suspended from streetlights in my future.

Bruce Campbell returns, supposedly as an extreme sports reporter hovering over Manhattan in a blimp and he will issue challenges to you, I guess which will take the place of the traditional races. Apparently failure will result in some pretty hilarious heckling from Bruce.

The one minor irritant that I may have with the game is that its based around this modernized movie universe, where apparently none of the classic villains are what I know them to be, and a few of these guys Ive never ever heard of before like Iguana, and that Rat guy you see for a couple seconds flexing on that overturned cop car. All the origins are different, so its like learning yet another universe with re-imaginings of villains that I grew up reading. Appparently Rhino, Iguana, the Rat guy, Scorpion and even Spidey and The Lizard himself are all results of research that was meant to combine human DNA with the DNA of other species.

Its all understandable I guess for the modern era, but it seems to cheapen the characters a bit to me to give them basicly all the same origin.

Whatever though. If the gameplay is there with a halfway decent story. Im gonna play the crap out of it.

The first thing I noticed in those videos was the tighter camera angle- combined with the new animations, it feels like you're watching Spiderman swing through the city, not a red and blue colored pendulum.

Dee Brown actually says in one of those E3 Vids up there that one of their main focuses was tighter control. To actually feel like Spider-Man, instead of trying to control a puppet. He and the interviewer then engage in a conversation about past games and how frustrating it could be to want to do one thing, such as run up a building or go a certain way and end up not having Spider-Man do what you wanted.

Another example was trying to reach the top of the Empire State Building, and having the worst time ever trying to reach the top of the antenna.

The only problem I can forsee with that tight camera would be in combat situations in an enclosed area, or if youre surrounded. Not having much peripheral view of the character can be problematic. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning had this issue. Fantastic combat, but you could definately get cheap shotted simply because you couldnt see the enemies either beside or behind you because the camera was so far up your ass.

The footage ChiroVette posted looks pretty cool, but I've got a few concerns regarding web-swinging. I can't quite tell from the video, but is the swinging in this game realistic in that you have to attach your web to a building? I really enjoyed that aspect of Spider-Man 2 and 3, but I can't quite tell if it's like that in this game due to the tight camera. What do you guys think?

I agree with The Stinger. I don't know why people for the last few years have been clamoring for realism in videogames. GTA IV was a perfect example. I want unbridled, absrud, crazy fake-ism not realism. I find that realism in games does NOTHING except suck all the fun out.
