GTA V vs. Saints Row 3 - Page 7

I dont really have that kind of mentality.

I dont see a real competativeness here and will gladly play both games. With the COD/Battlefield argument i have picked my side. But I just dont see the same problem with GTA and SR. Both are spaced too widely apart and both are great for different reasons.

It could be argued Battlefield and COD are geared towards different groups of gamers. Most big COD fans i know (including me) hate battelfield and vice versa, whereas everyone i know who bought SR also had GTAIV.

To the outsider they look near enough carbon copies. In concept and quality of story etc, they are both on the same level.



There aren't that many genres that have such a close comparison between totally seperate franchises, as first person shooters. And God, there's alot of 'em! Maybe God of War and Dante's Inferno were a bit too close... but sandboxes are generally unique.

• Just Cause is a stunt-crazed secret-agent sandbox
• GTA has amazing characters and epic storylines

My impression of the SR games is that they don't take themselves too seriously, so gamers themselves take it less seriously. (i mean this in a good way, i know lots of people like SR because of it's customisability and over the top, 'un-realism'). GTA has captured the hearts of millions of gamers, for many years. People take it seriously when R* release a 2 minute teaser trailer, especially when it is GTA.

To the outsider yeah, but to a fan of either that statement could be considered a capital offence.

I like the fact that GTA is super realistic now while Saints Row is super unrealistic (like really unrealistic, it's ridiculous ha) because then I have 2 great sandbox games that are dependent on how I feel like playing.

Whoa, LOL, no need to fall out over it. And statements like that can simplify anything. I could say the only difference between a car and motorbike is the number of wheels or the only difference between a cat and a cow are a set of udders.

Each game has many, many differences from the next. And the more experienced you are with one, the more differences you will notice. Even minor differences can have huge effects. Granted most militairy shooters look similair, but thats because they share similair settings and graphics are becoming more and more realistic. They all look somewhat real.

I expect different things from both games, so I won't really be comparing them.

Alright dude, i don't mean to sound harsh I'd like to keep on-topic here, but i'll say this- no matter the little differences (because they are little difference, little changes in lighting, scoring/ranking systems online) within games like COD and Battlefield, they are idealistically VERY similar. Okay, Battlefield gives the player vehicles to control (a great addition), but the core of the game, the whole package (and this applies to sooooooo many FPS titles of late), is just a multiplayer game looking down the length of a gun. Bang! Bang! Oh and there's a give-it-or-take-it, worthless storyline if your friends aren't online

I can't really comment as i haven't played that much of the Saint's Row games, but it's easy to say that many games have taken on the influence of Rockstar's games. Just Cause is an open-world crime game, but more based around secret agents and pulling off stunts. SR is similar to GTA, but more action-oriented, stylised and customisable. But in the end, these titles are much more different to each other than most FPS war-shooters are
