I think because Rockstar tends not to use the conventional number of gaming. Like GTA3 being followed by Vice City, San Andreas and then GTAIV (excluding PSP games etc). Also, wouldn't direct sequel mean a continuation of GTAIV's storyline? Course it could be a prequel and not a sequel too? But hey, who knows?

Oh, and the logo definitely gave off the US money vibe to me. That's it.

I hope somewhere down the line Rockstar decides to take GTA to the UK. It'd sort of be like a Getaway type of game but only GTA-esque. Would be pretty damn awesome to play in too.

Anyway, it's definitely referring to the 5 dollar bill. I started looking around at the different bills over the years, and the five from the early 90s has "FIVE" in the bottom corners on the back, as opposed to an actual '5'.

Yeah, but of course it's a sequel. Unless it's GTA IV again, which is impossible, it's a sequel. So it was always going to be a sequel. So people are jumping around about how it's a "direct sequel", when it would be impossible not to be.

It would. But they aren't doing that, because they never have in the past, ever.

They're all sequels. They really are. IV is no more a sequel of III than VC is. They're all sequels.

It doesn't even make any sense. You're throwing around this word "sequel" like it has some over-bearing meaning. It just doesn't. No GTA game has been any more sequel than any other.

Exactly! It doesn't mean anything! It doesn't mean it's some fancy special "sequel", it's just another GTA game, set somewhere else in another time with a new set of characters.
There is no pattern we've seen in the past! There was a time when every GTA game had a new number, that broke with VC. For 10 years, the numbered games have referred to games on a new system and set of software. That's broken now. There is no lasting pattern!
No, IV and III don't matter. No more than VC or SA or LCS or anything.

That's just it. We have patterns, but every generation they get warped and broken. Which means they're not really patterns - patterns repeat reliably. Or, they're temporary patterns that can no longer be followed.
