Log in to remove this sponsored message    Redknapp confirmed as England manager. 22nd April 2012 In his first press conference as England manager, Harry redknapp took time out to thank former club Tottenham Hotspur for the time he had spent there and was confident that he had left the North London club at the right time after he lead Tottenham to 3rd in the premier league , ensuring champions league qualification and finishing runners up in the Fa cup.Redknapp , the appointment that has seen the FA revert back to an English manager after four years under foreign control , made it clear to the English public that he already had plans that would allow him to get the best out of the English players and with his experience in the premier league , Redknapp insisted he had a shortlist of players that he would be keen to name in his first England squad , which will see him name his first 30 man prelimary squad for the European championships. “Everybody always thinks they can pick a better team than the manager, so you have to make sure your team wins and no one can argue with you , although if you get beat, you’ve got a problem , there are some great players in England. It’s about getting the best out of them. England’s players have long been accused of freezing on the big stage and they seem unable to produce superb club form on the international stage. Redknapp agrees even high-priced stars can go into their shell when they pull on the Three Lions shirt.Redknapp said: “Yes, it could be a psychological thing.We play at Wembley and it becomes a different style of football to what we play on a Saturday.” Redknapp has also questioned whether playing at Wembley , the new English "home" of football was helping or hindering England and made it clear that he would bring this to the attention of the FA and would look to see some games transfered to other grounds. England have lost to Germany, Croatia and France and drawn with the Czech Republic, Ghana, Switzerland and Montenegro in recent years at Wembley, proving the national stadium is not a fortress. Redknapp added: “You wonder sometimes whether you’d rather see the games played at Old Trafford or Anfield, where there’s an atmosphere when we play at home, where it’s intimidating.I’ve often thought that. You might go away somewhere and watch England play and it’s much more intimidating. Wembley seems a showpiece stadium with an open pitch and it is not quite the same. In those other stadiums you can maybe play an English style.” In the same press conference Redknapp announced the appointment of Liverpool's Steven Gerrard as the new captain replacing John Terry , after much scandle that surrounded the armband loss that saw the FA and Fabio Capello come to blows and ultimately saw Capello resign as England boss." Steven for me is the what every player should aspire to play like every match see's him play with passion and his heart on his sleeve , Steven has played on many prestigious occasions and has lifted many trophies and I'm confident he can lift a cup with the England national team.I would also like to make it clear that this appointed is at no disrespect to John Terry who is still a very important part of the national team." The two games next month take place on the twenty sixth of may and the second of June respectively, and these friendlies are used to warm up for the European championships. Redknapp confirms preliminary squad. 12th May 2012 Harry Redknapp has named his 30 man preliminary squad to take on Norway , Belgium and Slovenia before cutting the squad down to 23 , meaning 7 unfortunate players will miss out on the European championships , a unenviable task for Redknapp.The squad named features two uncapped players and is a mix of the England squad of old that have experienced many tournaments and heartache as well as players that have not but have much club experience. Goalkeepers: Joe Hart Scott Carson Robert Green Defenders: Leighton Baines Gary Cahill Ashley Cole Phil Jagielka Glen Johnson John Terry Joleon Lescott Micah Richards Midfielders: Gareth Barry David Beckham Michael Carrick Tom Cleverly - Uncapped Stewart Downing Steven Gerrard - (C) Adam Johnson Aaron Lennon Frank Lampard - (VC) James Milner Scott Parker Ashley Young Forwards: Darren Bent Andy Carrol Peter Crouch Jermain Defoe Wayne Rooney Daniel Sturridge - Uncapped Theo Walcott There are a few surprises in the squad, Redknapp has chose to include uncapped Manchester United midfielder,Tom Cleverly,the former Wigan,Watford and Leicester City loanee has enjoyed great form since returning to Manchester United after Paul scholes retirement and has Sir Alex Ferguson has been quoted as saying that the youngster could be a "potential homegrown replacement for Scholes" and we said to have been the "best player" in a pre-season friendly against Spanish superstars Barcelona.The twenty-three year old will be keen to impress to try and win a place in the England European championship 23 man squad. Daniel Sturridge has also been given the chance to impress Redknapp , the former Manchester City and Bolton loanne made a big impact at the Lancashire club and scored eight goals in 12 apperances and he became only the sixth player to score in his first four games for a club in the Premier League.The youngster has a brilliant record with the England youth teams , Sturridge has already represented England at under-16, under-17, Under-18, under-19, Under-20 and under-21 levels , making his biggest impact scoring in the European Under-17 Championship in the final against Italy, twice against Holland for the Under 18 side in 2007, he netted again in the Under-19 European Championships against Holland. He scored the only goal for England U-21 in a 1–1 draw against Greece U-21 in Greece and scored his second U-21 goal in the 1–0 win over Portugal. The 22 year old has now been given his chance to impress Redknapp to earn a place on the plane to Poland and Ukraine.  | |

Norway 0 - 3 England 26th May 2012 Manager - Harry Redknapp (4-2-2-2): Hart , Richards , Smalling , Terry , Cole , Parker , Lampard , Lennon (Young 66') , Gerrard (C) (Cleverly 66') , Rooney (Bent 66') , Sturridge Subs: Carson , Lescott , Young (66') , Bent (66') , Baines , Cleverly (66') , Carroll , Johnson , Downing ENGLAND COMFORTABLE IN WIN Harry Redknapp decided to go with a 4-2-2-2 formation against the Norwegian team that have failed to qualify for the European championships despite having quality in the ranks with players such as John Arne Rilse , Brede Hangerland and Morten Gamst Pedersen.England were comfortable during the match and dominated possession something that will please Redknapp.Daniel Sturridge started the match getting his first appearance for his nation at first team level aswell as Tom Cleverly also made his first England apperance in the match appearing in the 66th minute. The move started as Aaron lennon recieved the ball on the right hand side , the winger made the inside run across the box that is obviously part of Redknapp's plans for Lennon as a England international.The speedster took on the shot just outside the D , unleashing a shot that cannoned of the keepers right hand post before deflecting onto the back of the keeper and bouncing up producing an easy tap in for captain and Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard. The Liverpudlian was the creator in the second goal , making space in the midfielder about forty metres out before placing the ball at the feet off Wayne Rooney , the striker took the ball into feet guarding of challenges with his back to goal and slid a beautiful ball through the defence on the edge of the box for the on-rushing Chelsea midfielder and vice-captain Frank Lampard to slot past the Norway keeeper. Gerrard was back on the goal offence on the 36th minute after great vision from Rooney and Lampard , the Chelsea start collected the ball from Parker in the middle of the field and after looking up the midfielder sprayed the ball to Rooney up top , taking the ball into feet with his back to goal.The clever striker with his back still to goal used a fancy back heal pass to tread the ball through the Norway defence finding Gerrard who produced a fine finish. England 2 - 1 Belgium 2nd June 2012 Manager - Harry Redknapp (4-2-2-2): Carson , Baines , Jagielka , Lescott , Johnson (Richards 45') , Barry (Inj 82') (Milner 82') , Carrick , Downing , Young , Walcott , Bent Subs: Green , Terry , Milner (82') , Rooney , Cole , Gerrard , Lampard , Richards (45') , Lennon ENGLAND DOMINATE BELGIUM Harry Redknapp decided to stick with the 4-2-2-2 formation that he has adopted against the Norwegians but ringed changes in the starting eleven and put out a virtual new eleven. Belgium put out a strong squad with Fellaini , Kompany and Hazard all starting.England dominated the match and Belgium can count themselves lucky to have scored a goal. The first England goal came from a breakdown in attack from the English , Leighton Baines received the ball on the left hand side , moving the ball inside into Gareth Barry , the Manchester City midfielder that would later go off injured , took the ball into feet and knocked the ball onto Carrick , he quickly took a large touch which created space for the midfielder and he found Ashley Young with a short pass , who was lurking on the edge of the box and he looked up and placed the ball at the feet off Darren Bent but defenders swarmed around the forward but the ball dropped to Young who unleashed a placed shot into the bottom corner. Belgium’s equaliser was simple , the play started as lukaku sprinted down the right hand side and Lescott disposed the forward and using the “if in doubt method” he cleared the ball into row z.Vanden borre picked up the ball and threw the ball into play finding Legear , the right winger took one touch of the ball to place the ball into a crossing postion , subsequently he smashed a low cross to the near post for Kompany to knick at the near post and send the ball past Foster in the England goal. The third goal came from a defensive error from Vincent Kompany after Theo Walcott beat the Manchester City centre back for pace but Kompany brought the winger down , although really he was going nowhere and was trapped in the corner of the field.Ashley Young placed the ball down and drifted the ball over the one man wall aiming for the near post for a charging Phil Jagielka to run onto the ball and smash it past the Belgium keeper with a fine header. Chris smalling started the move by taking a free-kick in his own half , the defender knocked the ball over to right winger Aaron Lennon and he quickly moved the ball onto Carrick on his inside and the midfielder found Scott Parker , the Tottenham man advanced with the ball for spraying a 35 yard pass to find Ashley Cole on the left hand side.The experienced left back took the ball down to feet , composed himself before finding Milner in the advanced left hand side postion , Milner produced a first time pass knocking the ball to Gerrard , who in turn found rooney in the middle of the park on the edge of the box and the Manchester United forward found Milner , who had carried on with his run , with a inch perfect through ball for Milner to produce a drilled shot that the keeper did well to put out for a corner.Carrick placed the ball the ball down and produced a drilled ball towards the near post for Smalling to win at the near post with a fine header to send the ball into the Slovenia net.
