 25 and Still Jobless – June 2013 - Cleaning Up  The first thing that came to my mind when I looked at the wages that some of the Gateshead players were getting paid was simply this. What the hell were they thinking!? Seriously, some of the wages that they were paying players that I would not even have in my first team half the team was just plain stupid! No wonder they are in trouble financially. Also, I ended up being reunited with one Nathan Thompson, who was on loan at Bath the season that I took over in, I not sure if he cringed when he saw me, or looked happy to see me, I couldn’t tell from where I was standing the first time I saw him again. The sad thing about this team was the fact that they were actually better than my last team and had more money financially as well. But yet most of that money was being wasted on some crappy players who shouldn’t be allowed here anymore. So I decided that I was going to put most of them up for sell, because some idiot had ended up giving them new contracts which won’t end until 2014, the end of next season! However much to my surprise (since I hadn’t been expecting it from a Blue Square Premier club), not only did we get a new shirt sponsorship deal which would last for 7 years, where we would be getting £6K per year, instead of just the £714 per year, the chairman Graham Wood injected £375K of cash to cover the debt that he incurred before I had even arrived. I not sure about you, but I was pretty surprised and impressed by the fact that the Chairman would even do that. He even increased the Wage Budget for me to use from £10K to £12K, which made me feel even more confident that I had made the correct choice by coming here. However, after so much time had been gone, Sir Alex Ferguson finally retired after spending so long at Manchester United, leading to an all-out tribute to the great man, who was without doubt the best manager in the world as of this time and within managers of his era. When the promotion favourites were decided, Gateshead only had the odds of ... 40-1 ... again I was stuck with this value, how annoying. 25 and Still Jobless – July 2013 - Feeling Friendly Before the season had even started, there was a shocking turn of events for a Blue Square Premier side. Grimsby Town had gone into administration and had also been deducted 10 points before the season had even begun. The fact that Grimsby Town had not only gone into administration and were now in debt, but the team were now unable to pay their players’ wages, which surprised me even more than anything else, due to the fact that there was in the Championship in 2002 for their last ever season before getting relegated for good with 2 successive relegations, starting in 2003, before going down to the Blue Square Premier in 2010.  I couldn’t help but feel as though that this was something that even I could not have seen coming this season, to see Grimsby of all teams going this low now was more than a bit worrying in my eyes, however, I just decided to ignore it for the good of my team. Anyway, ignoring the fate of Grimsby that I was sure was not going to get them relegated from the league, even if we wanted it to happen to them, I worked with my assistant manager to go ahead and arrange several friendly matches before the season started, because one, it would get us a lot of money, two, we have a 11495 all-seater stadium which we only had to pay £6K per year of rent to the club for, so we should be fine either way financially, if we got more season ticket holders anyway. After having so many friendly matches, I was more than a bit pleased with some of the results. You want to know why? Have a look at some of the results ... or just one in particular I don’t care. I’m still going to brag about it anyway.  We beat Newcastle! We beat Newcastle! We beat Newcastle! Now I’m going to stop chanting before I piss you off so much that it’ll make you want to hit me. If you’re not already in that state of mind anyway. Now that it's out of my system, who likes my ... 'genius' idea to play so many games that my players will not be able to help but get fit in time for the proper season to start?
