It was almost exactly one year ago that Square Enix announced Dragon Quest X was coming to both the Wii and Wii U console. With Dragon Quest X having been launched about a month ago on Wii, and the Wii U console still tentatively aiming for a November release window, it's fitting to hear that details on the game's Wii U release are right around the corner. Square Enix has confirmed today Dragon Quest X Wii U details will be showcased at the Tokyo Gaming Show starting September 20.
While Dragon Quest X hasn't sold as many copies as previous iterations in the franchise, perhaps there are many interested gamers simply waiting for the Wii U launch. That point is especially relevant when you consider the Wii version requires a special USB drive of over 16GB to play on the console. With a subscription rate, however, it's unlikely Dragon Quest X would even need to sell another copy to become insanely profitable. Another sale never hurts, of course.
To keep things in perspective, remember that Dragon Quest X has yet to be announced for North American or European territories. Perhaps TGS may change that, though I wouldn't hold my breath -- likely expect a localization announcement sometime in 2013. After all, as alluring as an MMO launch title on the Wii U sounds, who wants to go up against the powerhouses of Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria?
