Today marks the start of qualifiers for one of the remaining three spots in Dota 2's championship event, The International. This week's event, the West Qualifier, will fill one more of those spots with its first place finisher. Second place will get another chance in the last chance event in the days before the International. Six teams go home empty handed.
Four teams will be playing in today's matchups. First off we have AbsoluteLegends vs. RoX.KIS (Radical Online Xtremists), which is currently ongoing. Second will be Team Empire vs. dd.Dota, starting at 10AM PDT. Finally we'll have the winners of the two previous matchups playing for a birth in the West Qualifier playoffs. All losing teams will have a second chance in the losers bracket.
Here's today's schedule, with each matchup being a best of three:
- 10AM EDT/7AM PDT - RoX.KIS vs Absolute Legends
- 1PM EDT/10AM PDT - Team Empire vs dd.Dota
- 4PM EDT/1PM PDT - Winners of previous matchups
It's seven days of Dota 2 International qualifiers with no more than three matchups a day. This way there's plenty of time work out any hiccups or scheduling issues, without forcing everyone to to take a full day off of work to keep up with the event. Instead, folk can go home and watch the replays for free via the replay system in the Dota 2 spectator client. Just check out the game on Steam if you're interested.
If you're here now, visit the following link to go straight to the livestream. I'd recommend it heartily over trying to watch the game via the client, as there are some pretty severe issues with connections right now. Basically, you're not likely to get in, because so many people are trying to watch. Hopefully Valve can fix this ASAP, because a lot of players who paid money for the Compendium are likely hoping to unlock couriers. They're about to be very angry.
I'll update this post as we get further into the week. Until then, enjoy some Dota 2!
