On the verge of 2012's The International tournament, capturing events from last year
Leading into 2012's largest Dota 2 tournament, the second annual The International, Valve has released a trailer for documentary they're developing. The Dota 2 documentary follows four professional eSports players leading into 2011's The International, one of which is a member of the team that eventually wins the tournament. The trailer provided a sobering tease at the difficulties, risks and rewards of being a professional gamer. A full documentary should be extremely dramatic.
Danil 'Dendi' Ishutin, Clinton 'Fear' Loomis, Benedict 'hyhy' Lim, Jacob 'Maelk' Toft-Anderssen, from Ukraine, USA, Singapore, and Denmark respectively. While their countries of origin and cultures likely couldn't be farther apart, the trailer hints that each player has more in common than they realize. Whether it be on their families, their education or their health, the decision to be a professional gamer has dramatic effects.
Dota 2's The International begins August 31st in Seattle, Washington during the PAX Prime event. Last year's International took place on Cologne, Germany. Dota 2 is currently in closed beta, though access can be purchased and the in-game cash shop is also running at full-speed. Neither Dota 2 nor Valve's documentary on the eSport have yet to confirm a release date.
