The first details have been revealed for the biggest Dota 2 tournament to-date -- The International 2012. Similarly to The International 2011, this year's tournament will feature a $1 million grand prize. 16 of the best Dota 2 teams will battle it out through a playoff-style double elimination bracket. Two teams have been invited so far: dominant Chinese team DK, and 2011's International champions Na'Vi.
While last year's tourney took place in Cologne, Germany, this year's will be featured in Seattle, Washington during PAX Prime. Yes, the convention that sold out of tickets in less than 24 hours of availability. Don't fret if you didn't get your tickets, because the entire tournament will be broadcast live with commentary free of charge.
Only two of sixteen teams have been announced, but it's already enough to get excited about. Both teams are on tournament winning streaks in 2012, and a matchup at the International would be momentous. For example, Na'Vi won both The Premiere League and The Defense this year, two large Dota 2 online tournaments. The prize pools for those were $5000 and 6000 EUR respectively. The International will be huge -- and possibly mark Dota 2's release.
Dota 2 is coming to PC and Mac later this year. Expect more news from Valve on The International as we approach the August 31 start date.
