We’ve known that a PS Vita version of the cross-over fighter Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 has been in the works for some time now, but we’ve yet to learn about how the game will use the unique features of Sony’s brand spanking new handheld.
Capcom has recently released some new information on the portable version of the game. It will feature optional touch screen controls. Players will be able to move their characters by dragging their finger across the screen, attack by simply tapping and jump by flicking.
More importantly, players can perform super and hyper combos by tapping the on-screen gauge. Similarly, assists are performed by tapping the on-screen icon. While experienced players will understandably want to ignore this control scheme, it seems like a good way to get noobies involved.
The game will have extensive online functionality. Players will be able to watch and play matches online via Wi-Fi. It’ll also make use of the Vita’s ‘Near’ feature by allowing nearby players to exchange gold characters with one another.
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is set to launch alongside the PS Vita in North America and Europe on February 22nd, 2012.
SourceThoughts?
Touch screen controls rarely appeal to me in any game, let alone a fighting game where they'd surely be a massive hinderance, so that's pretty "meh".
The Wi-Fi functionality seems good at least.
