What would it take for you to buy the new generation Playstation when it releases?

What strategy could Sony employ which would convince you to get their next console release?

I'm an admitted Nintendo fanboy, so short of buying Nintendo, not a lot.

I'd have to see something that gave me a real "wow" factor with a reasonable pricetag to make me jump. HD graphics have never really done it for me personally, so I'm not really sure what that might be, and they'll have to have a high pricetag if they want to really differentiate graphically from Wii U and the previous gen. anyway. Frankly, I'm a lot more likely to get a PS3 on the cheap to uses as a bluray player and for the Tales games they are actually localzing on the console. (Darn you Graces!)

I'm pretty set on not buying the PS4 given that I've had my PS3 for only two years and still have a lot more to get out of it. I suppose the only thing Sony can really do is have a game that I really, really, really, really, want to play, which will not happen because those games are always on Nintendo consoles for me.

Producing the same games Nintendo does. I like Nintendo for the game series and until other companies buy all the rights to my favourites, I will no be purchasing another console.

Anything that has ever been decent for ps3 i can get on pc.

and the only real interest for ps3 was the shop to buy ps2 or ps1 games.

All that would take for me to buy a sony PlayStation 4 would be for sony to announce a date, and a price. To be honest, I have no preference when it comes to consoles. I like Sony for the superior more reliable hardware, I like Microsoft for xbox live, and I buy Nintendo because it keeps my kids entertained. .

I can sympathize with a lot of this. I think Sony is dying. If the Vita isn't the coffin then it'll be the PS4. They're way too paranoid and caught up in their proprietary BS to make anything functional anymore.

They're almost the antithesis of Nintendo in a way. Nintendo focuses on games; making new IPs, evolving old ones, and providing a platform for game companies to do their thing. Even if they just spent a year iterating their line up it would be a pretty damn great year. The Wii, 3DS and WiiU accept standard SD memory cards, and even come with them in many cases. Their hardware tends to be underpowered, but with that hardware they make you feel like a kid again.

Meanwhile Sony is... well they're Sony. They try and corner the market on a new technology and usually take a hit because of it. Blu-Ray was their success while UMDs, Memory pro Duo and whatever the Vita takes are all... well ONLY Sony uses them. I don't see how anyone likes them for that, and I'm sure it hurts them as well. All they know how to do is make tech. They aren't friendly or lovable, they lost their original mascots long ago (No Spyro or Crash Bandicoot in "Sony Smash Bros" is a significant indicator of their stance in gaming. They don't even HAVE a history or a legacy anymore) and their exclusives are dwindling. If Atlus and Square announced tomorrow that future Disgaea and KH titles would be on Nintendo platforms Sony would officially become useless to me. All they can do is make tech and try to hang ont exclusives, so they try to be like their opposite; Nintendo. Release motion controls, do childish things with them, make a handheld console... we're profitable again, right? Sony emulates Nintendo like Wile E Coyote emulates a bird; straps on some fake wings and hops off a cliff with them. Ends about as well each time.

The 360 defined itself as a social console, and it's popular with a lot of different types of people, somehow, despite ads, being underpowered, and having to pay for real online play, and the hard drives are proprietary. Multiple discs, ffs! You wouldn't think that MS could pull that off, but they do. Is it because Sony isn't putting up a good enough fight? Maybe, but I'm perfectly willing to say that MS is just doing everything else right. It's cheap and gets its way into homes, It's online offering is unmatched and XBLA isn't something to wipe your nose at. They have their fair share of failures as well, but they also pick themselves back up. I never found a reason to get a 360, but if you like it then you'll be happy with it.

You might be putting a bit too much faith into japanese developers. They have an overall dislike for America and releasing things there, and they place too much importance on a very small number of people. Skurai and Nomura are two that are figureheads or several large franchises, but they can only work on one at once. Progress on Versus XIII and KH3 can't go forward because Nomura is stuck on yet another FF13 game. Smash Bros development couldn't start because of Animal Crossing, and Animal Crossing couldn't get started because of Kid Icarus. Sony now is making their money on mobile games, clumsy ports and their sibling studios, but an occasionally Nomura release.

Overall I'm happy that Steam is working to broaden PC gaming penetration. They're probably the best thing to happen to PC gaming in the last 10-15 years. I won't buy a Steambox because I have a very capable gaming PC, but I appreciate that they're taking risks.
