According to Engadget Nintendo has announced that their previously delayed Wii U app TVii will be released as soon as December 20 -- tomorrow. The application, which turns the Wii U's GamePad controller into a web-enabled remote control and media hub, will launch with integration of Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video. Other services, like Netflix and TiVo will be added next year. All of TVii will be available free to Wii U owners. 

Reggie Fils-Aimes, COO of Nintendo of America, hyped the product a bit in the announcement:

"After Dec. 20, you'll never look at your TV the same way again. Wii U owners have already experienced the transformative effect that the GamePad has on game play and social interaction. Nintendo TVii shows how the integrated second screen of the GamePad can also transform and enhance the TV viewing experience. Welcome to the new world of TVii."

I'm not sure if I'm comfortable having to look at the TV in a different way. I'm rather used to it as it is and my resting spot on the couch is just how I like it.  Nevertheless, it will interesting to see just how TVii will help people watch the television in new ways. I'd expect if anything it will persuade more people to subscribe to various video serves and maybe not much more.

All of the apps mentioned above, Netflix, Hulu Plus and the like, are already available on the Wii U as individual apps, but the TVii service will bring them together on the GamePad. Simply consider it an experiment in using a touchpad as an extravagant remote control. Look forward to its launch tomorrow, Wii U owners.
