If you've been playing through the Planetside 2 beta or perhaps are just curious as to what to expect in the future from the MMO shooter, developer Sony Online Entertainment has detailed what's in the works, based on beta feedback and results.
For starters, spawn mechanics and squad cohesion will together be tweaked, so it'll be easier to get where you want when you want. For example, the closest "hard spawn point" to your squad leader will be available to everyone at all times, so if you need to get to where he is quick, it should be as easy as hitting a few buttons.
Next on the list is base cap mechanics. These will be changed so cap zones will be increased, and it will be made more clear when a zone is being capped; the actual capturing mechanic will be based on a 'tug of war' style you're probably familiar with from other games, as well. Lastly, maintaining zones will offer a variety of benefits across the map, including reduced spawn timers and more.
Ever ambitious, Sony plans to implement intercontinental warfare, so you'll be able to lock down entire continents much as you could in a real war. Like with zone cap benefits, locking down a continent will provide wide-reaching benefits. If you haven't noticed by now, this is not your ordinary shooter.
All changes detailed above will be coming over the next few weeks and beyond, so there's that to look forward to. In the meantime, hit the source if you want the full details on what's going down.
