SOE confirms today that PlanetSide 2 will arrive on Steam at some point, and the long-awaited beta starts today. It's a good day for fans of a certain upcoming title from Sony Online Entertainment.
Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley is no stranger to Twitter, as plenty of news concerning PlanetSide 2 comes from his tweets. The other day someone asked whether or not the F2P MMOFPS would arrive on Valve's digital platform, which Smedley replied with, "Planetside 2 will be on Steam. Yes it will."
He also replied to some other questions about Steam, like how SOE loves Steam and that Valve is good to work with. Smedley did not say whether PlanetSide 2 will provide any Team Fortress 2 hats, but will ask Valve about the possibility.
To go along with everything, the PlanetSide 2 beta has arrived at long last. The first wave of beta invites have been sent out, with more planned to arrive throughout this week and possibly into next. Current PlanetSide 1 subscribers and All Access members will be in the first wave, while anyone who use to subscribe will be in the next wave. People with Priority Access codes will be next and then opt-in registrants, so it looks like nearly everyone should stand a chance at checking out the beta. The PlanetSide 2 beta is under a non-disclosure agreement, which means you will only be able to talk about it on the game's beta forums if you get in.
