Arkane Studios released its second developer diary today, titled "Immersion" and focusing on how the team developed and built the world of Dishonored. The creative process of going from a time frame, architectural inspiration, and industrial design to characters' faces and voices is an immense undertaking, but this developer diary does an excellent job of introducing gamers into development.
What's especially impressive is the efforts to which Arkane goes to create atmosphere even in this developer diary. It's obvious that Arkane wants to create a mood in players when they think of Dishonored even prior to the game's release. From the unsettling music that plays throughout the video, to the interviews themselved taking place in what appears to be a sewer, Arkane wants gamers to to know: Dishonored isn't a happy, pleasant game. Scarred faces, sharp edges and shadows, blood and death, plague and fire -- oh no, Dishonored takes place in a nightmare.
Dishonored is coming to Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 on October 9, 2012. It's a first-person assassination title that can be played stealthily or entirely action-oriented, and from what we've seen so far it looks amazing.
