Shadow of Death I honestly can't believe that, because when you're watching things on TV, one is constantly reminded that "CLOSED CAPTIONING HAD BEEN BROUGHT TO YOU BY...[Product]"

When I was a kid, I had no idea what that message meant, and I never bothered to ask anyone. I thought it was something like the company that paid the show the most money or something.

I've heard the closed captioning message so much that it is permanently engraved into my brain.

Not only that, but every single VHS and DVD I own has closed captioning, with maybe one or two odd (but understandable) exceptions.

That's cosmic...

Giga Bowser - You'd be surprised how many DVDs/BDs don't have subtitles (or in the case of DVDs, Captioning as BDs don't have caption streams since such streams are analog and BD is pure digital).

It's especially common with limited/indie released stuff. IE: If the stuff is hard to come by only a year or two after release, and/or budget releases it's all the more likely that there won't be subtitles/captions.
