How quickly do youth players develop??

I'm promoting good players with high potential, but they are only improving by 1-2 points per year.. I just experimented one season, started them all year or either loaned them to teams where they would start!
Example: 67 overall, (83-89 potential).. Ended at 68. 17 years old
68 overall. (91 potential at 16).. Ended at 69
67 overall. (82-88). Ended at 70. 19 years old.

I've seen on this forum where guys say players have grown by 5-10 points in one year.. How??? I use 5 star scouts.. All of them can't be busts. Granted none of them are over 18 or 19. Do they improve more rapidly once they reach 20-21?

Is it related to form? I usually sim most and play occasionally.

It really depends how much they play. Also, a player will grow more aged 19 than aged 16 or 17 I've found. I had a player who started as a 43, very low I know but I took the gamble with his potential being 88-91, and he grew to 44 in his first season, then to 46 in his second season then aged 18 he grew by 6 to 52. I think you've got to ease them in at first and then once they have improved a bit you've just got to throw them in at the deep end and make them your starting player. For example, mine was a RB so it was a bit easier to get away with it and he suddenly became quite a decent player even at overall 52. The next season he grew again by 4 to 56, then unfortunately I stupidly sold all my good players and tried to focus on all my young players and I was struggling to keep up with winning trophies like I had done so I gave up on the game.

I've had a number of youth players come through though and you've really just got to try and give them game time and make sure you keep it simple with them and not expect them to be able to go on mazy runs beating 11 players then smashing it into the top corner.

So if I just simulate them it'll go quicker ? I wanna get my players to become greeeeeeaaaaatttt
