RichyBoy12 I find that when I start a career mode, I set out guidelines for what I want to achieve. A kind of 5 year plan, just in my head but you can document it on here to let everyone else know what your goal is.
Firstly, you need to decide what sort of challenge you are after. Do you want to be challenging for the league title straight away? Or would you rather have to fight it out in the middle or at the bottom of the table for the first couple of seasons? I would split the league into 6 different categories:
Title Challengers - Transfer Budget* - Wage Budget** Arsenal - £24,000,000 - £1,825,000 Chelsea - £40,000,000 - £2,000,000 Manchester City - £84,000,000 - £2,250,000 Manchester United - £26,500,000 - £2,173,000
Champions League Challengers Liverpool - £21,000,000 - £1,500,000 Newcastle United - £13,000,000 - £785,000 Tottenham Hotspur - £17,500,000 - £1,479,000
Europa League Challengers Aston Villa - £14,500,000 - £615,000 Everton - £8,000,000 - £750,000 Fulham - £11,000,000 - £686,000
Midtable Pushers Stoke City - £12,000,000 - £512,000 Sunderland - £13,000,000 - £629,000
Midtable Strugglers Blackburn Rovers - £8,000,000 - £481,000 Bolton Wanderers - £10,500,000 - £423,000 Queen's Park Rangers - £7,500,000 - £510,000 West Bromwich Albion - £6,500,000 - £326,000
Relegation Candidates Norwich City - £5,000,000 - £200,000 Swansea City - £5,500,000 - £345,000 Wigan Athletic - £9,000,000 - £305,000 Wolverhampton Wanderers - £8,000,000 - £376,000
*- All transfer and wage budgets are on World Class board difficulty. You can get more/less money with other difficulties. **- Wage Budgets rounded up/down to the nearest £1,000.
I like to choose a team where there is already a solid base but there are lots of positions that either need cover or replacements and they must have a decent budget and players that I can sell to bring in more cash. As you can see, there are a number of teams with fair budgets, teams like Wolves, Wigan, Blackburn and Bolton all have solid bases for their teams but could easily jump up 1 or 2 categories with the addition of a couple of players. They also have the funds to bring in top players and have other players that are easy to sell on in order to raise funds.
After choosing my team, I like to decide what formation I will play based on the players I have or more simply what style I want to play that will suit the team. Once that is sorted out, I go to the transfer market and select the dispensable players and list them for sale. I usually look at either the oldest players, the worst players or players in positions that I won't be using. For example, wide players in a 4-1-2-1-2.
Then I go to Buy Players, the best part of Career Mode in my opinion. I pinpoint what positions I will need and decide what transfer strategy to adopt. Whether it is the Arsene Wenger approach to go for youth, the Harry Redknapp wheeling and dealing or the Man City/Real Madrid big money galactico signings, I compile a shortlist accordingly. My transfer strategy is very often the basis of my goals with the team, usually to bring through young, native players (in this instance English) in order to have a full team of Englishmen in the future. Some players will not be in your reach straight away and sometimes it can be better to leave them at their club to grow for a little while before poaching them to sit on your bench and be only a bit part player. This can be risky though, as their price will elevate as they get better.
I also like to keep an eye out on the Scouting side of things. For me, bringing through my own youth products is a big part of the game and is something I like to focus on as much as my funding allows me. I typically only sign 5*/5* scouts, costing around £9,000,000 or €10,080,000. Depending on the club, I do not worry about the nationality of the scout but it is believed that scouts find better players in their own country. So, I would look for a top English scout in order to scout in England. I also like to find other British talents from Scotland or Northern Ireland. It can be a very long, drawn out process though and is not for everyone.
Aims make everything more interesting and gives you a focus with what you want to do with the game. Make sure you set yourself some goals to achieve, this will keep you interested in your game. Just make sure you choose the right team in the first place!
So, at the moment I am playing with FC Metz in Ligue 2 (France) and my aims are to try and make them a European super power and finally lead them to a Ligue 1 title after having finished only 2nd and 3rd place in the past. I also aim to create a famous youth system and produce top quality players that will be, hopefully, the next Henry's, Zidane's, Deschamps', Vieira's, Desailly's, Barthez's and Thuram's. For me it is really important to have players of your club's nationality playing for you. It is not always possible and sometimes you will have to look elsewhere, but my first point of action is to try and find young, talented, French players. I am currently unbeaten at the top of the table but am only ahead by 1 point after drawing 4 games out of the first 12. It's very tight and any team down to 9th place could take the top spot depending on results! I haven't enough money yet to afford a top scout so I am hoping to win the league and perhaps sell a couple of players in order to raise roughly the €7m in funds that I need. I'm excited about the game at the moment and I inted to stay with Metz until I have achieved my goals. [/div] Thanks bud, I will take every single detail into account and I will pick a brand new career mode team from this list and update it according to what this says
