A strange season - achieved more than I thought possible and was still thoroughly disappointed. Three wins on the trot in the Europa League group stage (including two away), not to mention a legendary defeat of Inter in the qualifying round saw the Dons through to the Round of 32, only to be thrashed by Roma. No progress in the Scottish Cup, either, thanks to a humiliating thumping by Kilmarnock.

The league was where things really went up and down, though. A fine run of ten straight runs in December and January saw the Dons overtake Celtic at the top of the league. A pre-split slump meant that Celtic made up ground and went into the split stage one point clear at the top. Aberdeen began the post-split games with a 2-1 defeat of Dundee Utd. and a 6-2 thrashing of Motherwell to go a point clear at the top - winning the next three games (against Celtic, Rangers and Hearts) meant winning the title.

Sadly, it was not to be - a 1-1 draw with Celtic kept the title in Aberdeen's hands, before a 4-3 defeat at Ibrox (having been 3-2 ahead) saw the Dons fall to third. However, there was still hope - the final round of fixtures saw Aberdeen host sixth place Hearts and Rangers face Celtic, the sides separated only by goal difference. A draw in the Old Firm derby could allow Aberdeen to win the league. Disastrously, as news filtered around Pittodrie that Rangers had made it 1-1 in the 80th minute, a ruthless Hearts turned Aberdeen's 2-1 lead into a 2-2 draw. Desparately surging forward, Aberdeen were caught on the break, losing the match 3-2 and ending the season in third.

Got a crucial champions league game against psv at home coming up. Might post an update solely about my champions league games left. So far it has been a very exciting group, i am currently bottom with 4 points, but man utd who are top only have 7.

1'- GOAL: Son and Sigurdarson play lovely 1-2 leaving Son to pass it into the net
17' - GOAL: el shaarawy cuts in from the left wing and passes it to sigurdarson who smashes it in from the centre of the box
29' - GOAL: meier powers through some weak defending from Hamburg and smashes it just inside the box to make it 2-1
35' - Son hit the bar with a great effort from 25 yards.
HT 2-1 very even match, with even shares of possesion however hamburg have had 6 shot to Frankfurts 3
2nd Half
81' GOAL: Sigurdarson, on the counter attack, crosses it for son to header into the net from 10 yards
88' GOAL: son picks the ball ball up on the right of the box, cuts inside his marker before placing it into the top corner to complete a wonderful hat trick
FT: 4-1 After an even 1st half, Frankfurt offered little challenge in the 2nd as hamburg ran out dominant 4-1 winners.

16' GOAL: Cuenca send it through to Higuian who playes a one two with Biester to stroke it into the empty net, leveling the game.
22' GOAL: Redmond breaks down the right, takes it into the box and smashes it into the roof of the net to make it 2-1.
HT: 2-1
61' GOAL: Redmond plays Higuain in and he makes no mistake one touch smashing it into the goal. 3-1
80'GOAL: Redmond plays a perfect chipped through ball into the box and Biester heads it in.

Nothing happened, the most boring match so far this season, but the manager was happy with this result, after resting many key players such ad Higuian, for the upcoming Champions League Game.

44' GOAL: RB Diekmeier was bombing down the right flank, set away by Cuenca, and he crosses it for Ilicevic to score, making it 1-0
HT 1-0, Granero and Higuian are subbed off, as they are tired from the midweek game, and tore and sigurdarson are on.
53' GOAL: Ilicivic passes it in the box to the Sig who easily blasts it into the bottom corner, 2-0.
FT: 2-0, not the most exciting game, but a good win and clean sheet

"I am delighted with our league form this month, 4 games without losing, and 3 wins. We won most of our games comfortably, and have kept 2 clean sheets. Our great form has propelled us up to 3rd in the league, in the champions cup place. Our players have finally found their shooting boots again, and long may it continue. This is the end of the league the fans and myself would rather be at.

HT: 2-0 tight game, we rode our luck at times with freo squandering 2 good opportunities for PSV, but after that be created some good chances

90' GOAL: A defensive error by Hamburg after the ball is passed straight to Mertens who coolly chipped over the onrushing john smith
FT: 2-1 got the crucial win we badly needed.

MOTM: Gonzalo higuian - played well and was unlucky not to score another goal.

Managers interview:
"Delighted with the result, the players knew how important this game was,it was definitely our most important game so far this season, and they did not disappoint. I was however, disappointed by the defensive lapse which allowed them such an easy goal, but all that matters is the end result. Now we are at least guaranteed Europa football, but i am still hoping to progress in this competition, but it will be difficult with our last game being away at Old Trafford.

Venue: Madejski Stadium

Reading were lucky to draw this one with Right back Smith sent off very early on.
One good point for the home side was 16 year old midfielder D.Mathijsen making his debut and not looking out of place.

The praise belonged to Wigan though, whose faith in developing their players paid off with Shawcross and McCarthy playing a key role alongside man of the match Jonny Heitinga in keeping out the attack of Zaha and Rhodes

Havard Nielsen made his eagerly awaited Premier league debut after recovering from a broken ankle, the other change for Reading was Williams in for the under performing Hal Robson Kanu.

Reading needed a win to keep pace with leaders Manchester United who were 2 points clear.

Man in form Lucas Piazon dominated the game setting up poacher Jordan Rhodes for the first and adding the second himself with an easy tap in.

Champions League Group Stages Game 3

Twente 0 - 5 Reading

Venue: De Grolsch Veste Stadium

Steve McClaren's FC Twente were keen to get their first win in the group against Reading, surprise winner against Barcelona in the previous game of the group.

FC Twente dominated possession early on keeping the game tight and preventing Lucas Piazon from providing his magical passes with his left foot.

Reading played patiently waiting for their chances to come, and Scott Sutter came to life with 2 goals within 5 minutes on the counter attack to bring the game to life.

The Berkshire club continued attacking the Twente goal and won a corner late on in the first half. Left back Joseph Mills provided a perfect corner for Captain Benedetti to header in the 3rd goal of the game and all but sow this game up for the visiting side.

Scott Sutter finished an individual amazing european performance by scoring an excellent lob from inside the box for his hat trick & the Royals 4th, one disadvantage from this excellent performance, will be that future opponents will be taking notice of his ability.

Jordan Rhodes wrapped the game up by chipping the FC Twente goal keeper, a fitting final goal for a game where Reading have shown their strength and skill on the ball, against the Dutch Champions.

Reading now top the group on goal difference after Barcelona only beat Marseille 2-1.
