What's the point of this?

All the other enhanced releases have been collections collections and were just so that people can easily get the previous games in a series at a price, but this one only has one game and halo is one of the few older games you can still easy get, it's even on the store.

This one will be the same price as the others but only have one game, and MS seems to be wasting a lot of dev time just to make it look prettier when they are short on devs and have next to no new games coming. This to me just seems like a blatant cash grab.

Ya, I agree, I wont be picking it up anytime soon. Maybe when it gets down to 30 bucks I will buy a used copy..But Halo 1 is not one of my priorities.

Because I've played every Halo game besides the first one. I keep hearing Halo 1 is the best, so I would try it, every other Halo that I've played sucks.

Ah, I gotcha. This is exactly why they're re-releasing the game like this. There are a bunch of people like you that missed out on the first Halo. Sure, you can pick up Halo 1 for like $5, and it works on your 360 perfectly, but why not experience it with modern graphics? I thought Halo's graphics were awesome at the time, so I still feel like I can play it and enjoy it like I did a decade ago. I'm sure it's not like that for all the kids that grew up with fancy x360 and ps3 graphics.

It's not going to blow your mind. You've already played all the other Halo games that came after it, so if you're expecting something different you're gonna be disappointed. It is much simpler than the other Halo games, both in story and gameplay. In a good way though, there's no dual-wielding, no bubble shields and jetpacks and all that shit. You can hold two guns at a time, there are only 4 vehicles you can use in the game, and the pistol is awesome.

I'm actually interested to see what someone like you thinks of it. Will you still like it as much playing it for the first time 10 years after it came out? Now you have to get the game because I'm interested to see what you think of it.

Yeah. Online co-op. The multiplayer stuff is gonna be the same as Halo Reach, so I don't count that.

Everywhere else seems to pay more for games, CEA is £30 day 1 where I live.

The thing is, when it came out 10 years ago it WAS revolutionary. Up to that point all popular shooters were rehashes of Quake, Doom, or a Half-Life mod. All with numerical, non-regenerating health/armor, often with being able to carry 10 weapons, and all on the PC (yes, I'm aware of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, but they were on the N64 and not really relevant in terms of a modern control scheme).

Then Halo: CE comes along and not only sets the standard for console shooters, but for all future shooters from that point on. Regenerating shields(and henceforth, health), 2 weapon limit, easily accessible grenades/melee, intuitive integration of vehicular combat, incredibly fluid gameplay, a standardized control scheme, vastly (at the time) customizable game/map settings for multiplayer, multi-console lanning, fantastic campaign/co-op (on a console shooter), etc. all owe their origins to Halo: CE. It can't be understated that FPSs weren't all that common on consoles at the time. Halo changed that.

Halo 2 & 3 were also revolutionary in their own regard in terms of what they brought to multiplayer gaming. H2 was the first and, for the longest time, most popular multiplayer game on Xbox Live (which as we all know was the first commercially popular console network). In its own right it set the standard for online multiplayer (not to mention it brought its own gameplay innovations such as dual wielding and fully integrated regenerating health). Similarly Halo 3 brought its own innovations including an experience based leveling/ranking system, rewards for accomplishing feats of skill (in this case medals), and it popularized custom mapmaking on consoles as well as a video recording/sharing system.

And yet the modern console community is a shortsighted beast, often not being able to see more than a year or two in the past and recognize how much has been built on the foundations laid by past games. I guess its easy to lose sight of the innovations that a series has brought when those innovations have become the standard and norm for all games.
From a contemporary standpoint, Halo: CE is an archaic relic, with no built in online multiplayer and very simplistic features. Sure, the fact that the character models can blink and that faces actually have recognizable human features aren't all that impressive these days, but Halo: CE still has some of the best pure gameplay of all shooters I've ever played. I still play it from time to time to relieve myself of the tedium and blandness of today's "best" shooters and I'm thrilled that the game is getting a facelift so a more modern audience can enjoy it.
