Should they train characters in SSB4?

like start out lvl 1 and work till lvl 10, call it the dojo, have that guy (dont know his name) that was in loz skyward sword that always said "blah blah blah slice through the bamboo like a stick of warm butter" there and somebody else. (this is seperate) and have missions for every character like in mario and sonic at the olympic games. (all this will keep you occupied for a LONG time)

No thanks. I'd rather not have to train my characters in a game like Super Smash Brothers.

I think RPG elements in a single player story mode could prove quite interesting, but would rather they stay out of the fighting game proper.

I don't want SSB4 to turn out like Runescape...

I'm sorry, is this post made by the same person who wanted characters like Silver, Dr. Eggman, Rayman and those Rabbids in Smash Bros.? Elucidate why the game must walk the RPG path when it's merely the battles that keep people entertained. And since when should every character have "missions"? Like, "get this item to this place before time elapses", "KO this enemy/group of enemies before time elapses", kind of missions? Maybe it may keep YOU entertained for a long time, but some others might exhaust its entertainment potential after some 30 hours. What people want is a Smash Bros. that will occupy them for hundreds of hours. I saw just about no flaws in Brawl, and as people would say, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." All Sakurai may have to do in this case is keep it simple; expand the fundamentals while adding in completely new stuff.

As long as SSB4 doesn't have similarity to Melee...

Levelling belongs in an RPG, not a fighting game. I don't want to be occupied by a grindy system. A game will occupy me if it's fun for me to play, that's good enough.
I would agree with missions for every character, like the Events system from Melee, and target smash being unique for each character.

A game like Brawl but with Melee's gameplay would equal perfection in my opinion.

Then what's the levelling process for if you don't get stronger with the character? Unlock more moves with them? Either way, any sort of progress made through levelling is just pointless. Sure it keeps people playing longer, but only because most people want to fully unlock/power-up their characters, so they're forced to go through a level grind to be equally competitive to other players with maxed out characters.

If by levels means unlocking cosmetic rewards (like different outfits), then I suppose that would be ok, just a lazy way of doing it. I'd rather see them add custom challenges for characters. Somewhat like events from Melee.
