Super Smash Bros. Memories for the 3DS? - Page 3

I just don't understand what would differentiate "retro" and "modern". I mean, Mario's been around a while, for example, but he still stars in many new games that come out today. Same with Pac-Man, and the Pac-Man model that would be used would be the modern one anyway, since they wouldn't use a 2D one.

BS, Wario was in Super Wario Land on the GB, that's retro!

And characters looking like their 8 bit forms sounds a bit lame and I agree with bbb7002004, this is starting to sound a bit like a fan based rumor gone wild and nothing like something Sakurai came up with.

I hope it Sakurai confirms this one as fake!

Acually I don't like 8 bit because Ganondorf will have to be that stupid NES Ganon thing.

He'll be slower than ever, he won't look cool like he did in Melee an Brawl when he was Ganondorf.

Ganondorf is and always will be my main character in Super Smash Bros so they can't do this to him, he's the King of Evil, better than Bowser, Better than Giga Bowser even, better than Link, he's Ganondorf!

No, Sakurai was asked if he wanted to revive any old Nintendo series like he did with Kid Icarus Uprising, to which he replied that Smash Bros. was a way to bring old characters back to life. It was nothing specific, and nothing confirmed, unlike what misinformed blog writers like to title their articles.

There are no rumors about one game only featuring NES characters. The rumor is the SSB Memories is the title of the 3DS game, and it will focus on "retro IPs", while the Wii U version will focus heavily on "modern IPs", specifically those introduced in DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U. The only mention of the NES in the rumor was that Ridley's design would be based on his NES sprite, since the size in comparison to Samus was reasonable. I'm not sure how this thread got derailed so badly, but its kinda funny to watch.

Edit: Also, in response to the video posted above, I think its a little presumptuous to call the memories rumor outright false. Trust me, I think its fake as fake can be, but we have no solid proof either way at the moment. His reasoning for stating that it isn't true is also flat out stupid. He says that Smash Bros. takes a long time to develop so it couldn't possibly come out in 2013, which is not proven out by history. Take Brawl for example. We know that development of the game started out around summer of 2005, publicly unveiled in the summer of 2006, and the game arriving in the early months of 2007 after being delayed from the initially projected winter 2006 date. This was after Iwata and Sakurai decided to do the project at E3 2005 and building an entire team around Sakurai to do it. In this case we know Sakurai planned on beginning full on development of the game after Kid Icarus Uprising shipped early this year and that thoughts about the game and its future were happening well before E3 2011, when Iwata said they had decided to do two versions of the game, one for 3DS and one for the then recently announced Wii U. Even with Sakurai saying development work wouldn't start until after KIU was done, obviously discussions were taking place for Iwata to make such a bold statement, and the bulk of the development work for KI was likely done in late 2011 anyway. Put that together with a large team working with Sakurai at NB, and I don't think seeing one or both versions of Smash coming out in late 2013 is that big of a stretch. That would be around the same development time as Brawl or Melee had, longer if you take into consideration Brawl's delay. In comparison to Brawl they have a larger team that is already built and equipped to handle next gen. development and design choices and docs. were likely in the works through 2011. Its not like Sakurai was hand programming KI:U, he is capable of multitasking.
