I must say, the possibilities for this could be quite fascinating. While some games implement it (such as Pokemon, and even that is on the same console in most situations... and not to much benefit).
Talk has sprouted that perhaps you would train a character on your portable and then port it to your home console, though others think it is unfair and could result in segregation of those who do not own multiple platforms or versions of the game.
I'd really love if they implement each game into benefitting from each other (immensely, not just to 'catchem all' or some cheap thrill like that), without requiring one for the other (though marketing and capitalism would state they likely go quite hand-in-hand). Yet, how else could it be done?
I cannot myself see the training of characters useful, at least not just by that thought alone. If that were the case, I dont know what the home console would offer, short of better graphics (unless the 3DS doesnt have better internet connectivity at that time).
