His typing is different, his motif is different.
His signature ability is different.

The similarities that really grate me: both are two-stage evolutionary lines, both evolutionary lines have special in-game events, both are the stars of approximately concurrent movies, both have similar stat spreads (included below for reference). There's just an overwhelming feeling that from a marketing standpoint, they are trying so hard to push Zoroark on us as the new Lucario to which I have an instinctive gag reflex to (being marketed to in this way). I don't disagree that at least the character designs are different, but that's not really my problem here. If Zoroark was just one of the other 150 Pokemon introduced this generation I don't think I would have a problem with him: I'd probably think he's some generic mixed attacker (of which there have been plenty) with a gimmicky/useless ability. I guess it's not so much the Pokemon itself that annoys me, but the way it's being used by Gamefreak/Nintendo.

Well a) R.O.B. is another "nostalgia" character (like G&W) celebrating Nintendo's earliest peripherals, specifically the R.O.B. that was usable with two NES games. In fact, they've been including him in lot's of things: He was a playable character in Mario Kart DS and several of the treasures in Pikmin 2 were based around R.O.B. and its gyros. I really like him and think that he should remain, for the same reasons as G&W.

It baffles me why so many people are convinced that characters so unique and pivotal to Nintendo's history as G&W and R.O.B. would be axed. Sure they have lost their surprise factor by this point, but is that the only reason they shouldn't return? I guess you can't make the same case for the Ice Climbers but they too have an even more unique flair to them and it would be sad, imo, to see any of these 3 go.

R.O.B. set the precedent for gimmicky console peripherals that Nintendo tout as a defining feature of their new console only for there later to be two or three games that actually make use of it.

I don't like Ganondorf. He's pretty much a slower clone of Falcon.

Ganondorf has enough moves in his arsenal so that he shouldn't be a clone of any character.

I think he's doing it all on purpose, for the sake of his own enjoyment.
If he adds Air Tripping, we'll know for sure.

I just disagree with your time table. I'm sure it could be argued that ROB was the 'first useless gimmick,' but all three of those terms are heavily potent and could be put up for debate.

And again here, was there really ever a precedent for gimmicky console peripherals? Not in character-like additions.Only in accessories for shooting or sports or fitness. Not the same type of peripheral.

They might as well add a Digimon or Tamagotchi. Why not!
