general Thoughts on this game

I decided to buy a cheap copy of this game for something different from FIFA, which i haven't had to urge to play at all lately. I used to love Pro Evo so much more than FIFA on the PS2 but hated the first few on the PS3. Don't think i bought 2009, wasn't fussed on 2010 and didn't buy 2011 either, so i've been playing FIFA the whole time pretty much apart from the demos.

Tbh, i wasn't that fussed on the Pro Evo 12 demo, but thought i'd get a cheap copy anyway as i thought i'd get some enjoyment out of it seeing as it's so different to FIFA. It arrived yesterday and tbh, i was quite surprised. Played it for a few hours and it was decent. I still don't think it's as good as FIFA by any means, but i had some great games online. (something which i hated about previous ones, as it was impossible to play online.) Online record so far is 7-3, which ain't that bad considering i haven't played the game for years and i jumped straight online

There's something about the game that just makes it seem more alive than FIFA, i cant quite put my finger on it, just seems like anything can happen and stuff like blocks are unpredictable, as well as messing up headers if the ball is an inch too high.

Few down points about this game for me have to be referees/fouls - they give a free kick when you couldn't have made a better tackle, and too many times you give away free kicks without pressing a button. I wouldn't mind it so much if i was actually running towards the guy, but so many times the player runs into me when im not even moving and falls over.

Which brings me to my next point - automatic decisions making. I've tried to turn as much off as possible, but it seems like nothing changed. I hate the fact that my defender turns left and belts it out for a throwing when i aimed in the complete opposite direction, how they take an age to stop running when you switch to them, and shooting doesn't feel as accurate as FIFA. I might be missing something (dont have a manual) but it's just one type of shot? Like in FIFA you have finesse/power shot , but in this it's just tap O and hope for the best on most occasions, with the ball ballooning over the bar most of the time unless you just tap it. In the demo, i had the ball about 25 yards out and all i did was aim left and tap O, and it ballooned over the keeper and in. Felt very undeserved which was a shame really. Cashis told me you can adjust the manual settings for this but i can't see it anywhere, just the passing one. It seems like you can do different types of shots because i've seen some people do finesse shots online with Messi a lot, something that looked like you couldn't do without doing something different than just pressing O...

I hope they get the gameplay speed right in the next game, as it seems a little off to me. Sometimes it feels so slow (keepers look like they're in slow motion sometimes) but when i play stuff like Madrid v Liverpool online it's crazy fast, end-to-end super arcade one-touch football stuff, which is obviously very unrealistic.

I do like certain aspects of the game though. As i said earlier it seems more 'alive' than FIFA and I think the graphics and animations look awesome, always looked better than FIFA. I <3 chip shots in this game, the editing too, and i think playing vs the CPU is more enjoyable than FIFA.

So yeah, is there any way to adjust the manual settings?

Also, can anyone provide a link to an option file for Premier League clubs if there is one? I've looked but found everything but. Either different console or not that league.

There's no manual shooting in PES 2012, but there's manual passing.

You are also able to turn off all CPU assistance too (auto-sliding tackles, etc).

After playing PES 2013, it's quite hard to play this game.

Depends on the distance really. When you're just outside the box, hold the down arrow (or hold down on the analogue stick) and then power the bar up to around halfway.. give or take a small amount. I've yet to find a consistent way to score FKs, I just do that and sometimes I power the bar a bit above the halfway point, sometimes a bit below. Obviously if you're far out you want to hold up on the d-pad/analogue stick) to do a really hard shot or you can use X or Triangle to do a moderately weak/moderately powerful effort. Just go to the command list whilst whilst the game is paused and check the 'set pieces' option. Then go and practice in training mode, you won't score consistently but you should be able to find your range and get an idea of how much power is required and when to use the very strong, strong, moderate, weak and very weak shot options.

Cheers, i can score some by holding down, and i can score some by tapping shoot as carefully as possible to sneak it under the wall when they jump, haha. No idea how people score from absolutely miles out though, curling it in the top corner |:

Not sure what the problem is then as I don't experience that particular problem.

Yes, manual shooting is in 2013. Works very well. You have full control over your shots. Tricky to get used to though.

Good to hear. I've only played 13 games online so far and i'm already sick of the automatic shooting. I aim for the right side of the goals and it goes to the left, wtf.

For long range free kicks aim quite wide of the net and curl it so goes out and then back in. Put over halfway power and hold up on the d pad/analog stick

I can tolerate the other little things I'm not keen on, but it would be absolutely miles better with more manual shooting.

Can't get the hang of long range free kicks :< Although I only tried with Gerrard, prob not the best. I'll have to have a go at those training challenge things

Do you know if there's any option file with prem kits and that btw? Can find everything but a uk ps3 prem option file

Been told that there's a new software update for PS3, which will allow you to "copy all".

Finally, Sony have found a brain cell and have implemented this system - by the looks of it anyway.

Yup. Pretty dumb from Sony though. Such an easy option to implement. God knows why it took them so long.
