I realize how late it is, but I think that for people like me still playing this game, it's honestly better late than never, and something that makes me think the last 2 months of this game will be pretty fun.

Anyway, Treyarch took approimately this long (not quite sure of the exact patch date) to patch the FAMAS, something that was called for for quite a while, and even though I had no problem with the FAMAS (it's the same as the AUG and anyway patching would just make the AUG dominant, duh) so I don't feel like the timing was unexpected at all.

Maybe i would have noticed a bigger difference had i used them more. I stuck to the FN FAL, SPAS-12 and RPK mostly. I did use the Galil, AUG and AK-47 from time to time but it didnt really matter what one i used, always got similair performance out of them. In my limited experience I found the AUG almost identical to the FAMAS.

I really , really liked the Black Ops AK47 probably the most of any game, and I felt like it was a bad ass gun in general. For some reason the Commando being slightly better recoil wise and identical in every other way never quite came out with me, and I always felt safer using the AK. Black Ops was my first COD though, and while it was fun and got me started on the COD franchise, in hindsight it was never my favourite after I bought a preowned MW2.

All the guns felt the same to me, why bother with an AK, Commando and Galil? You only need an AK. Same thing with not needing the AUG, the M14, pretty much all the SMGs (when you had the 74u) so I ended up playing safe most of the time considering it was my first COD, and my favourite guns were the best of their class and looked the best (AK, M16, 74u, AUG sometimes). To me those things combined to make me think "Why bother?"

So yeah I would have to agree with what you're saying about the tinny guns, IW games sound so much better imo, but I never really wanted at all to use an LMG or a shotgun, the Spas looked terrible in that game with the stock folded up, whereas in MW2 and MW3 it's one of my all time favourite guns.

Out of all the CoD's, I actually think the MW3 version has the best AK-47. To me, it's the best looking and best feeling one. From what I can remember of the CoD4 and MW2 variant, they had the most vertical and erratic muzzle climb and I feel the MW3 version has the best iron sights. The only reason the MW3 variant feels a bit crap is simply because of how good the other AR's in MW3 are compared to it.

While the Black Ops AK-47 looked pretty shit, I think it was the best performing of the bunch bar CoD4, since I haven't played it. Very little recoil and killed in a few hits...but it was one of those guns you didn't really put a suppressor on.
