Eurogamer has heard from multiple sources that the new Call of Duty game, thought to be Modern Warfare 3, will launch on 8th November 2011.
An internal Tesco database refers to the new Call of Duty game as Call of Duty: Project Collossus [sic].
The 8th November date is the Tuesday before The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is released. Call of Duty: Black Ops was released on Tuesday, 9th November 2010, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released on Tuesday, 10th November 2009. World at War (14th November 2008) and Modern Warfare (9th November 2007) were both released on a Friday.
The news drops hours before Activision Blizzard announces its financial results for January, February and March 2011. A company conference call starts at 9.30pm UK time.
Activision and Tesco were both unavailable for comment.
This autumn's Call of Duty game still hasn't been announced. Reports suggest that this - Infinity Ward's first game since studio heads Jason West and Vincent Zampella were marched off the premises (taking a wedge of staff with them) - will be a prequel to the first Modern Warfare game. Will Sledgehammer Games - the studio set up by former Visceral heads Glen Schofield and Michael Condry - help? Will Singularity developer Raven Software also lend a hand?
Last night at Activision’s earnings call, the new C.E.O of Acitivision let out some information regarding the new Call of Duty, saying the game has a massive scale. [MW3Blog article] He said that the game will have epic action, a better community because of connectivity, and immersion. We didn’t know too much about the game he spoke of, until Kotaku caught up with a “reliable” source.
The source said Captain John “Soap” MacTavish and Captain John Price will return to complete a much, much bigger story, that features a scenario that the world is in crisis. In the same world that Russia invaded U.S. that left a cliffhanger in MW2. [Kotaku article] This further indicates that the game in question is in fact Modern Warfare 3 that has been hinted for a year and a half. The source goes on to say that the game will have an urban theme – and the game will be highly destructible. The destructible environments has been a trademark of the Battlefield series. See for yourself:
There has been rumors that Activision is looking to monetize the Call of Duty franchise by the way of a pay to play model, that is a hallmark of MMORPG’s like World of Warcraft. This was further backed up by an announcement that there would be a digital platform that would further enhance the COD experience through COD upgrades. [source] This digital platform opens COD up to more weapons inventory; new weapons, new equipments, new weapon equipment, and weapon/item upgrades. These include weapon attachments that have been a hallmark of Call of Duty since COD4. But we still don’t know that that digital platform entails or even what it’s going to be. It’s purely speculation at this point. But the idea seems obvious, and is more in conjunction with Black Ops’ introduction of Call of Duty points. These points allowed you to buy unlocks within the actual game itself, so this digital platform may be the key to opening COD to a marketplace that the industry may have never seen before.
The difference between the content in Black Ops and the forthcoming Modern Warfare 3 is that the digital platform is purely a content delivery service intended to update regularly, and not presets as with previous games in the series. This project has been in development for 2 years, and is headed by Beachhead Studios.
Activision made it perfectly clear that when MW3 launches this year, players will start out with the same feature sets as the previous games in the series. They said that they can enhance their experience through this digital platform, but they also stressed that they’re optional add-ons.
The supposed pay to play model has been a rampant rumor since it was spoken about by former C.E.O. Bobby Kotick, but it’s a rumor that has been debunked by both Treyarch and Infinity Ward. In the investor call, Eric Hirshberg confirmed that the game will NOT be pay to play.

Video game testing is a pretty big thing these days due to the amount of content in games and the expectations from consumers. We were contacted by an anonymous tipster who was supposedly alpha testing Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and we were able to have a brief discussion with them.
With a reveal which will hopefully come soon a lot of you may be wondering what kind of features MW3 could offer. Our source was very brief with some of the information and we only managed to get some key details to what people may find important in Modern Warfare 3. Perks, Maps & Guns where revealed during our discussion which he made clear multiple times that some details may change through out development. Our source mentioned 5 perks that were available during testing which were Scavenger, Revelations, Pointblank, lifeline & Sleight of Hand. Two of these you may be familiar with but unfortanetly he only gave me a description of Pointblank & Lifeline. Pointblank is a perk which makes makes your "reticle smaller" as he described it is "Cheating in plain sight" and "Helps you hit the head", a perk that makes you more accurate at gaining head shots. Not much was shed on the perk "Lifeline" but to my understanding it is something along the lines of stopping power pro.
According to our source his weapons of choice were the Vector, Colt 45 & Pacer 56. The Pacer 56 doesn't exist, at the time I started to question the truth behind his story and he had this to say about it "It's suppose to be a new weapon imported if a new war started". Apparently, only one map was available during testing titled "Detour" which he made comparisons to Hotel in Black Ops. The pacing in Modern Warfare 3 was described as "Faster than MW2" and a apparent cover system exist in the game "Oh yeah, your suppose to be able to hold on to cover".
Pointblank? Pacer 56? Cover system? Map called "Detour"? More fast paced than Modern Warfare 2? A whole lot of new things from this interview whether or not it's real we can't confirm. But it seems that, if even SOME of these items are true the next Call Of Duty could be a bit of a twist to the franchise, especially with that cover system.
Manhattan to the catacombs of Paris, Modern Warfare 3's near-future campaign looks to be an experience that will top anything seen before in a Call of Duty game.
Multiplayer, too, seems to be shaping up to be an experience packed with new maps, experiences and ways to game.
Sources tell Kotaku that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have as many as 20 multiplayer maps, though it's unclear if some will be cut before release or perhaps sold later as expansion packs. The game will also include a powerful mix of mission-based and survival Special Ops modes. While the mission-based levels will be designed like the ones made popular in Modern Warfare 2, we're told, the survival maps will have players fighting until they're overcome by increasingly difficult waves of enemies.
While we haven't seen the game in action ourselves, we believe that the imagery is accurate. That doesn't mean things can't change before release.
We've contacted Activision for comment and will update the story when and if they provide reaction.
Team Perks Stopping Power: Increased bullet damage. Blast Shield: Unclear Health Regen: Regenerate health over time. Stun Protection: Prevent stunning from flash grenades.
New Perks Blind Eye: This makes you immune to computer-controlled and player-controlled killstreaks. The pro version makes your launchers lock on faster and gives you extra bullet damage to vehicles. Assassin: This makes you immune to UAV, thermal, and heartbeat sensors. The pro version also makes you immune to CUAV, EMP and no longer shows your name in red or the crosshair in red when you're targeted. Point Guard: Every two assists count as a kill towards your killstreak. Dead Silence: You make no noise. Recon: Gives you a special kind of radar to spot enemies, most likely. We're not sure on this one.
Killstreaks EMP Grenade: Temporarily takes out all area electronics. Littlebird: A tiny remote-controlled helicopter. Precision Airstrike: Calls in an airstrike on a targeted area. Stealth bomber: Calls in a B2 Spirit to carpet bomb along a line designated by the player. Remote Turret: A remote controlled turret. Directional UAV: A UAV that can be directed into areas to scan for enemies. Remote Mortar: Direct a mortar team using a zoomable camera view of the map to call in strikes. Airdrop Trap: A booby-trapped airdrop. Ammo Resupply: An ammo reloading airdrop. Escort Airdrop: A protected airdrop. Specialist Strike Package: This one remains a mystery to us.
Anyone would agree that horde-styled modes in modern first person shooter games aren’t something unheard of. Despite being aware of this, Infinity Ward has added a Survival Mode in its upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Of course this gets its influence from the much-loved Zombie Mode in the previous Call of Duty games, but it’s an interesting thing that it is being integrated for the first time into the Modern Warfare series.
As stated before, horde mode is no alien to us. But how it plays out in Modern Warfare 3 is something everyone will be interested in knowing. Each and every map included in MW3 supports Survival Mode, and it will accessed via the Spec Ops menu.
The mode is quite similar to the Zombie Mode from Treyarch’s Call of Duty games; you start off in a specific map with nothing but a handgun and a sharpened knife. Frustrated and enraged enemies come at you; you kill them, earn some cash, and go about buying ammo and weapons to take out more waves of enemies.
Though you’ll be doing that bit even in Survival Mode, this time around enemies won’t be mindless, slow zombies who take ages to invade; they’ll wary from speeding dogs to kamikaze soldiers. As you progress, eliminating wave after wave, you’ll get the chance to call in air support if you have the cash to buy it.
You can also call help from the sky to support you. A squad drops down from a helicopter and joins the fight. You can also call riot guards, auto-turrets, and air strikes. In short you have plenty of options and helping hands.
Waves aren’t limited by a number, so they’ll keep on coming one after the other, each giving you specific challenges which you can complete and earn rewards from.
Enemies come in various forms; some pretty easy to handle and others that are too volatile for safety – literally. You’ll encounter standard types of enemies early-on, but once you advance you’ll have dogs chasing after you and occasional boss fights such as against juggernauts and helicopters.
You’ll also encounter suicide bombers, and even suicide dogs, both having C4s strapped around their waists. What makes this mode differ from the Zombie Mode is how smarter, faster, meaner and sophisticated your enemies are.
The action is intense and engaging, and aiming to complete challenges can be a real test of skill and mettle for those who are willing. Though Zombie Mode could get boring easily, Survival Mode has enough pace, enough intensity and enough smart enemies to keep you battling on for a good while before you get tired.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (also known as Call of Duty: MW3 or MW3) is an upcoming first-person shooter video game set to be released on 8th November, 2011 (which was leaked on 16th May, 2011). It will be the eighth installment in the Call of Duty series.
Sledgehammer Games will assist Infinity Ward in the development of the singleplayer, and Raven Software will develop the multiplayer. Sledgehammer is aiming for a "bug free" first outing in the Call of Duty franchise, which also sets a goal for Metacritic review scores above 95 percent.
This will be the first Call of Duty game released with multiple developers.
On 12 May, 2011, four teasers trailers (shown below) were released: America, England, France, and Germany. This could indicate possible locations for the game. The "e" in the name of each trailer is stylised as Modern Warfare's number 3.
On 23 May there was the first trailer to show gameplay (found here). Early visuals indicate the AC-130 and Black Ops-style Chopper Gunner to make a return, with weapons such as the UMP45, M4A1, AA-12 could also be seen in the trailer.
On 31 May, it was announced by Activision that Call of Duty Elite, a brand new social service for the Call of Duty community to track and compare statistics, create videos and access premium content will be integrated into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This does not mean however that Modern Warfare 3 is a pay-to-play game. Players who do not subscribe to this content can still play the multiplayer side of the game, on a level playing field with everyone else who has subscribed, and will still have access to Downloadable Content. Therefore Call of Duty Elite will not grant you access to any new multiplayer features such as guns, or anything of the like.
On 6 June, an E3 trailer was released on YouTube (found here) showing a campaign mission in Manhattan.
A new Game Mode called Survival will be added to Modern Warfare 3. The player would have to defend themselves against wave after wave of enemies, who now also have the ability to equip a weapon.
There are sixteen new multiplayer maps on the disc, all of which can be played in Survival mode as well. New map packs will be released monthly via DLC, for at least six months. Call of Duty: Elite subscribers will get them free. The Elite service costs $50 USD / year, and also gives users full access to the stat-tracking and networking website. Non-paying players will have access to certain features of the website for free.
New multiplayer features in Modern Warfare 3 include:
Strike Packages: There are three of these (Assault, Support and Specialist), and they determine how killstreaks behave. The Assault package gives you kill streaks which get more kills, and they kills build up in the usual fashion. It is not yet known whether they will be cumulative, or whether they will not count towards the current streak. The Support package can built up 'point streaks' for getting kills and securing objectives. The rewards include armour for the entire team and a Juggernaught suit. Getting killed whilst near objectives does not result in the streak being reset. The Speacialist package allows the player to have up to six perks. Extra perks are gained though achieving point streaks, but are lost on death.
New multiplayer mode called Team Defender
New multiplayer mode called Kill Confirm, in which players must collect dog tags dropped by enemy players to score kills. Allies can collect the tags instead, nullifying the kill. This mode rewards players sticking together.
New prestige shop where you can choose your rewards for prestiging
Private matches will be much more customisable
Heavy facebook integration
Things that have been removed from Modern Warfare 2 include:
There are currently 41 confirmed weapons in Modern Warfare 3, of which 15 has not been featured in a Call of Duty title to date. New weapons are in bold.
For the first time in a Call of Duty game, the player will be able to attach two sights to the same weapon. The scopes can fold down allowing for a close range optic such as a Red Dot Sight as well as a long range scope such as an ACOG.
"Say you're picking guys in windows out long range in Manhattan, but then kick through a door and start clearing a building...You can now fold down your magnifying scope and already have a close-range optic on your gun - so now you're engaging guys close-target without having to change weapon."

re: Modern Warfare 3 - News, Rumours and Speculation
Lifeline is supposed to be like Stopping Power Pro? Oh for *bleep* sake, if this is true, then they better have Juggernaut in to counter it or just have both removed. You can't have one and not the other. They either both need to be in or both removed. Preferably removed.
To me however, when I first read those perks before getting to the details on them, when I saw Lifeline I instantly thought it was just gunna be Last Stand/Second Chance. Anyone thought the same?

Maybe they meant the actual pro part of Stopping Power, not the Unpro version
Getting a killstreak one kill earlier seems less of a lifeline to me than Second Chance/Last Stand. Unless maybe they've chanced the way Hardline works if it stays in the game. Like PhoenixBlue said, we'll just have to wait and see.
