Capybara games, developers of the hugely popular Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, have just released a huge infographic detailing sales metrics for their game. For instance, did you know that Superbrothers sold over 1.5 million units? Did you know that, surprisingly, sales were distributed fairly evenly between iOS, PC and Android? Did you know Capy deserves all of their success ten times over?
Perhaps most interesting about the infographic is the comparison between sales per platform and revenue per platform. For instance, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery was first released on iOS, then on PC, followed finally by Android. Despite that, iOS sales only make up about a third of total sales. PC sales make up about 40% and Android the rest. Despite that, more than of revenue came from iOS and virtually none (less than 10%) came from Android.
Basically, with every subsequent release of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery on a new platform, Capybara added a wider variety of discounts. Here's the big statistic: 86% of iOS sales were at full price, 50% of Steam sales, and only 23% of Android sales. So while 21% of sales came from Humble Indie Android bundles, only 8% of overall revenue came back in return. That's still probably a lot of money, but it shows just how profitable iOS sales truly are.
Capybara Games is currently hard at work on Below, currently announced as an exclusive for Xbox One. Considering how great of a game Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is, it's worth keeping the developer on your radar in the future.
