Collusion? When alleged superfan Seow Zong Hui came to Capcom with the shell of a new project, magic happened. What came of their partnership is what's now known as Street Fighter X Mega Man, an 8-bit Mega man throwback the likes of which fans have never seen! Who needs Wiley's Robot Masters when you've got the roster of Street Fighter to battle? The best part is that the game will be made available for free in celebration of Mega Man's 25th Anniversary starting December 17.
"We know it's been a hard year for Mega Man fans, but I hope this proves our love and intent to the series, and that we have not heard the last of the little guy."
8 boss battles, 8 absorbable powers, a full 8-bit soundtrack that mixes both Mega Man and Street Fighter style, and likely many surprised to discover -- Street Fighter X Mega Man is truly a gift for Capcom fans. Capturing Juri's shield power and using to block Ryu's hadouken might be one of the most gratifying powers yet in a Mega Man game. There's just something about battling familiar faces as opposed to animal-robot hybrids that make this project magical.
"Flash Man mixed with Ryu? Snake Man mixed with Dhalsim? Too cool. This mashup style is also present in the boss battles - if you know how Blanka and Rose behave in SFIV, you'll have an idea how to approach them in SFxMM."
Mega Man may not be in any major game releases this year, but true to form on his 25th Anniversary he remains a favorite in the greater community. I can't imagine a better way to celebrate than with a Capcom fostered fan project like Street Fighter X Mega Man. Remember, it releases for free on PC starting December 17.
