Witcher creators CD Projekt RED got us plenty excited when they announced their sci-fi RPG back in May, but the pen-and-paper-inspired RPG didn't have an official name until today. Cyberpunk, as it was tentatively known as, is now officially Cyberpunk 2077.
The source material is Cyberpunk 2020, a long-running tabletop RPG, and depicts a futuristic dystopia of sorts. The game, Cyberpunk 2077, will keep some of that spirit alive, dropping players in the fictional Night City in the year 2077. Much of the pen-and-paper version's mechanics will be fine tuned, obviously, to better suit a modern video game.
Series co-creator Mike Pondsmith expressed his excitement over working with the CD Projekt team:
“The Team has to love the material. The Team has to want to be faithful to the material. The Team has to have the skills to execute the material and see that vision through to the end. They have to be on fire with the desire to make an extraordinary game.
And that leads, at last, to why we hooked up with CD Projekt RED."
Dig that retro logo art, too.
