I'm looking at getting a Samsung Galaxy Nexus though. My current Sony Xperia Mini Pro is on its way out, with a battery life of approximately an hour :(

I think not getting an iPhone because it's mainstream is a silly idea. I've never owned an Apple product. Instead I've gotten a Zune primarily to avoid Apple's shitty iTunes software.

Funny you label Apple as evil and then mention Samsung and Sony. Apple is actually one of the companies that is avoiding conflict minerals'. Sony and Samsung are happy to exploit war-torn nations and fund ongoing conflicts, apparently. I'm not trying to imply Apple is squeaky clean (we all know about that Foxconn shit) but the reality is that all corporations do *bleep*ed up, evil shit.

As someone who works in the IT industry, I can't justify spending $900 on something that is inferior, at least in my eyes. I mean, this picture sums up it up for me to be honest:



That said, I still do think the iPhone is a good piece of hardware, and I don't think 99% of the people who buy one are disappointed in their purchase, and good for them, I hope they're happy. However, I will never buy a propriety system such as an iPhone/iPad/iPod etc...I enjoy my freedom too much to give that up (if you want to hear the tale of me trying to put a ringtone on my Father's iPhone, feel free to PM me!).

At the moment I'm running a Galaxy SII which is just perfect, running just as well as the day I got it. Will hold off on the Galaxy SIII and probably buy the Galaxy SIV when it comes out (or its' equivalent). I'm so satisfied with the Galaxy series that I've convinced Dad to buy my Mum a new Galaxy SII to replace her original iPhone which she hated :>!

As far as company ethics go, I don't get involved in that shit... corporations worldwide do some shady shit all the time. It's just a matter of how much you as a consumer are willing to live with I guess. I try to keep my focus on the actual product as opposed to the companies themselves.

walnuts What can you do on Samsung Galaxy that you cant on Iphone ? I've currently got an S3 and am struggling to get on with it. I've only ever had one Iphone (so I'm not an apple fanboy fyi) which I got a 2 months ago. I much prefer the UI of IOS compared to Android. Everything's just so,simple

And the free apps aren't that good. I've yet to find a game that I find really good on Google Play :/

How can Apple be avoiding conflict minerals whilst Samsung do not? I thought Samsung supplied many of the components used in Apple's products? Genuine question, I know absolutely nothing about how any of the major companies source their materials besides what gets put in the news (like the whole Foxconn thing). I am like walnuts in that I try to look solely at the product when it comes to hardware.

That aside, my specific reasons for not buying Apple products are mostly because they're overpriced and generally inferior to the competition, with ease of use and low maintenance being the only things they have going for them. Perhaps the word "evil" was wrong (because - like everyone else said - what corporation isn't evil?), but I guess I don't like how they've decided to sue their competition on the grounds of these ridiculous patent and intellectual property "breaches"; how they claim to innovate whilst releasing the same tired products every year, which are readily lapped up by fans who don't know any better; and how they're the most valuable company in the world not because they were innovative or because they pioneered new technology, but because their overpriced designer hardware is "cool" and "trendy". I don't want to be cool and trendy. I want a phone that's good, with hardware worth my investment and software that gives me the freedom to use it as I wish.

How often do Apple products break? Haha, working in a electronics store, trust me: a lot. I'd say in terms of warranties 40% are Blackberry phones, 40% are Apple anything and the remainder is whatever else we sell.
