Has anybody tried this yet? If not, I highly recommend it. It's a free-roam multiplayer mod for ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead in which a large amount of players (dependent on the server) take the role of survivors. The island is overrun with zombies, and the only goal is to survive. Simple, right? Not exactly; players have to keep an eye on their temperature, food supplies, hunger, thirst, and even how much blood they have. Fights with zombies are often fatal and are usually just better avoided, as they rarely have any useful supplies. Vehicles are scarce, most destroyed or otherwise unusable. Despite the condition of most vehicles, many can be repaired with certain mechanical pieces, and refueled with... well, fuel.
Aside from mere cooperative efforts, players have an extreme amount of interactivity between them. Each players has their own set "humanity" level, which begins at a base number, and goes down as you murder other players. Murdering other players can yield both a great cache of supplies, or dire consequences. Once a player has killed enough of his peers, his player skin changes, and he becomes a bandit. Normal survivors are rewarded for killing bandits, and can often loot decent supplies for doing so. Furthermore, players in groups are significantly more useful than lone wolves, needless to say. Although, sticking with a group adds a whole new level of intrigue and danger to the game; other survivors will have little reason to trust you, and will have no problem putting a clip of their standard Makarov into your head for a much needed hunting rifle. Generally, the zombies are not the ones you need to watch out for.
Oh, and your character remains across all of the DayZ servers, until he is dead, that is.
I may be a little late on this one, judging by the build number of the mod, but I found it to be one of the more impressive pieces of modding gold around, and I believe somebody will find this to be new to them. Enjoy!
