Grumpy Old Gamers

I am curious how many other grump old men gamers there are out there.

I am 48 and been gaming on computers and pen and paper for 34+ years! My first computer game was Bugs-n-Drugs on the old Plato system in 1977 and I have been an avid computer gamer ever since.

Most likely yes, plus the forum isn't too active, The oldest game system I ever played was the Atari but that was during the mid 90's it was the first game system I played before the parents bought a Snes, I enjoyed the old games and still play them occasionally though the ones I commonly replayed were Snes games like Super Mario World, Yoshis Island and Zelda:LTTP.

when it comes to PC games I generally played Tetris a lot. another commonly played game was the windows 98 SkiFree.

For the Atari I actually remember playing the E.T. game and not having a clue as to what to do in it so switching it out to play an awesome Tank game (and I would still consider it pretty good today) and a parachute style game where you have to aim towards hoops floating in the air and landing on a small spot on the ground.

I act more wise and older than my age group, does that count?

Old enough to remember old punch card "coding" and literal bugs in the system maybe?

I never really spent much time gaming on punch card systems, ususally more work oriented. However I recall the early days buying a "gaming" magazine and you would have about 15 pages of BASIC code you had to enter by hand to play the game. God it is hard to believe we LIKED casette drives back then.

Dark Heresy is a fun PnP game, and pretty much the only one I've played a decent amount of.

Those old Touhou games are hard man!

AHHH back in the day when the game devs worried about the game itself and not what tech they could push with it or how lifelike they could make it.

It's sad to see that the developers and publishers put so many millions into making everything shiny instead of focusing on the game mechanics and actual content. Surely some games do both well but there are far too many focusing on the graphics or tech aspects.
