Dragon's Dogma may be a single-player game, but that's not stopping Capcom from adding in the epic-level Ur-Dragon, a dragon boss that'll require multiple players to down. Wait, how does that even work?
Okay, so somewhere in the game -- in the Everfall beneath Gran Soren, to be exact -- players will run into this huge flippin' dragon who won't think twice before pulverizing you and your Pawns. To be clear, there's no way you're going to be able to kill this thing. The only way Ur-Dragon can be defeated is through group effort and asynchronous encounters over Xbox LIVE and PSN.
Over time, multiple players will face the dragon, dealing persistent damage until finally, some lucky fellow can deliver the final blow. Anyone who participated will receive loot, but the one who kills the beast will be given the "maximum reward." All players who landed a hit will also have their names and play times recorded in a sort of "Hall of Fame" for others to view and attempt to surpass.
If your console isn't connected to either XBL or PSN, you can still slay Ur-Dragon alone, but with the scaling difficulty comes scaled rewards, so what you get for single-handedly taking out the dragon won't be the same as what "co-op" players receive.
Dragon's Dogma will be released a couple weeks from now, tNorth America on May 22 and Europe on May 25.
