After two years of development and an extensive beta period, Stardock is finally about ready to release its strategy RPG Elemental: Fallen Enchantress; the game is nearly gold, and the launch date has been set for October 23.
If you don't know the history, the developer's original Elemental: War of Magic was seen as something of a flop by hardcore strategy fans, due in part to programmer and CEO Brad Wardell taking on design duties (turns out giving the programmer final say in the game is a terrible idea). So it was that Derek Paxton (Fall from Heaven) and Jon Shafer (Civ V) were brought in, and from what I can gather based on community beta impressions, have carved out a much better game.
Anywho, Fallen Enchantress will launch on Steam and elsewhere for $40; if you bought War of Magic early enough, you'll get it free. While you wait, check the new screens below.
