Anyone still playing AECA?
|
Well, I am. I haven't gotten all the planes yet, but most of them.
Anyone else?

I'll always pop the game in just to take a ride in a bird and blow up some tanks.

Next to Ace Combat04;AECA is top notch in my book. I still play it and AC-04 a lot and never grow tired of them both.Just wish there was multi-role missions in the game so that you can engage both air and ground targets at the same time.
AECA is a much better flight game than LSII is

As I mentioned on the AC04 forum, I still haven't got to play it because stoopid Sega-Europe and Sony haven't gotten their collective fingers out. I've said it before and I'll say it again, they suck ass. JimC sierra hotel

I know this is going to sound stupid and maybe kind of dumb, but I'am creating my own game out of AECA when playing.First off,I'am going through my own kind of training missions using the free flight mode, practicing take-off's and landings,Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground combat training, and then doing some day and night carrier take-off's and landings as well.
Then I'am going use both the free flight and the scramble alert's to create my own combat missions.Yeah I know, there's not much you really have control over, but I thought for me this might be fun....call it childish or what not,but at least I'am trying to be creative and add some replay value to AECA

YOU TOO?!
Coo'.
How bout we list some custom sorties up on this mug? Give them a sort of back story? Mission order, what to pilot with what ordnance, what difficulty, mission stage, levels, weather, and or time limit? I had one written down a while ago that resembled as close as possible, ACE04's scenario. Gotsta find it...

Why not!
What I'am doing is a work up with the F/A-18C right now, I'am using the carrier and the mountain lake air base for my training. At first I used the C-1 and took off from mountain lake to fly to the Island where the big air base is,though at this point,I haven't reached there yet.
On a simulated combat training mission for air-to-air, I used two Mig-21's armed with only guns, and my F/A-18 loadout was just four Sidewinders and my 20mm.
My training mission order was as follows...
Engage one of the aircraft with no more than two missiles. Engage the second aircraft with guns only. Once mission was completed,I was to return to base and taxi my aircraft over to the hanger area.
Right now I'am making things up as I go along, but its adding fun to this game a lot.
I also conducted some flight manuevers over the Bay city area and did two highway landings.
Then I did what was a hostile intrusion by two enemy SU-27's set for air-to-air1 weapons load.My F/A-18C was already armed at mountain lake air base with four AIM-120's,four AIM-9's,20mm and an external fuel tank. As the mission turned out,it was a surpise training mission, that once both aircraft were shot down,I decided that command had set this up to test my abilities. The two SU-27's were drones....use the imagination
I also did an air-to-ground training exercise over the desert location,I plan to use other aircraft to make a joint Air Force/Navy/Marine and Army operation.I'am also going to team my forces up with those of the JASDF at the Volcano Island location......oh and this training mission for air to ground was done with only free fall bombs only.
More to come,so what's your take

Last night, after returning to Mountain Lake Air Base, I made one last training mission before calling it a night.
My F/A-18 has suffered some technical problems and was down for repairs,so command decided that they would give me a special treat! I was to take-off in an old F-86 Saber, set for Air-to-Air one loadout, and engage a drone F-104(the JASDF because it is armed)and shoot it down.Once the mission was completed,it was RTB.
As for really any background story,I haven't come up with one yet,but I'am working on that.

Something that would've been nice to have and I think a must in any future flight games,is to have a mission editor.I like the scramble alerts and such, and the game still has alot of good replay value, but I would like to have the ability to also create my own missions.
The sad think in this game is that you can't engage in multi-role type operations or missions(scrambles),if there is to be another sequal or another version of the AECA series,I hope that there will be missions or even in the free-flight mode where you can engage in both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat.
A mission editor would as well add to the replay value of the game, being able to set conditions(weather, times of day, ect)and the amount of enemies you wish to take on and location selection would be a big plus.I hope the designers of these games will give this idea some very serious consideration, and I hope that maybe we might be able to see something like this add into AC5 as well as any future flight games.

Just got it today! I know it's old news to you guys, just started doing the traning missions this afternoon. The Helicopter stuff is really tricky, especially the ones where you have to stay below or at a certain altitude. Did my first Scramble alert too, only got 24 because I didn't take pics from differnt angles, oh well. Love this game but AC04 is still the king. It is bit frustrating trying to turn sometimes with the bloody stall warner going off constantly. Anyway just glad to be part of the club. JimC sh

Welcome aboard!! Just because this forum seems dead, don't be afraid to post questions here. We still monitor it, (Well I do anyway, and I'm sure there are others) and the AC4 board is made up of the same people who post here. Help is never far.

I remember when this forum was hoppin. Those were the days. I perefected carrier landings with the F/A-18, I also landed a harrier on a carrier. That took me a few days. Another thing fun to do is use a plane with show smoke, and pretend to do an air show.I also try landing on highways, and the dam in the one level. I also like to go up real high like 60,00-70,00 ft then just stall out and watch the replay. Well those are a few things you can try, right now the flight sim I'm playin is SWON, which I highly recomend, and I just preorderd Air force delta strike. I got like halfway thru LSII but i got bored with it, even with the great planes in it.

Yay, some conversation.
So is this Airforce Delta Strike the one I hear of, where the jets can, for some reason, break atmosphere and travel in outer space?
If so. . . . . . . . . . .
I wants.
Any other PS2 flight sims out worth gettin'? Somethin' you guys recommend? I have a feeling I should continue to stay clear away from the lethal skies series. I'm waiting for Ace Combat 5.... oh, is that Secret Weapons Over Normandy game any good? I thought about renting it, haven't yet. Something about slowing down time....fighters busting max payne moves.... for some reason, the combination of that and Lucas Arts can only remind me of Starwars: Jedi Starfighter...and i didn't like that game.
I'm also thinking of importing Energy Airforce II, as well as this new macross game that I hear is supposed to be made by the same guys who did Aero Elite, and that it's supposed to be more of a flight sim game than straight arcade shooter.

Glad to see there's still some action on here. As far as Secret Weapons Over Normandy is concerned, nice graphics, okay storyline, highly unrealistic handling not to mention pain in the ass rudders on the right analogue stick as well as throttle at smae time. very annoying, could have been great.....just isn't.
I finished all the training missions on my first days play (long day!) Doing the Aero Meet stuff, an that formation flight following the T-3 through the hoops over the city is really melting my brain. I keep losing sight of him. I try holding down the target view but it doesn't always work. Persevere is my new favourite word (not).
I have to say I love the replay mode and the camera selections. I've made 4 movies of me doing cool stuff in my F-14.....LOVE that plane. Just a shame it stalls so readily. I could go on for hours about this game. In short I'd say some little glitches, but otherwise a very welcome addition to the console flight sim genre. Pretty darn sweet.
