Scramble alerts.
|
Thought I'd make a post here so we can share our alerts together and compare notes on what takes place. Also we could share our stats here if you guys like, this is not to see who can out do who, but to just share what we've done.
Okay I guess I'll start, today I managed to gain my first 100% on an alert, previously I lost my F-2A to some joker who decided he wanted it.That mission was a loss and as in my post I made, the aircraft had to be written off, however the next alert was a really good one.
When it came,I figured it was going to be the routine intercept and photo op,okay so I head out due west to make contact. However, when I closed in I got a missile warning,"THIS WAS IT!" it's what I was waiting for,a real mission. So once I got the all clear for weapons release I closed in a fired.
One radar and one IR missile failed to hit,but the second IR homed in and "BOOM!" bad guy down. When it was over,I came out of it with my first 100% scoring, despite loosing my F-2,this scramble alert made up for it's loss So,what stories do any of you have to share.

? What are these scramble alerts? I ain't got them yet. I'm working on finishing the attack portion of rotarty training. That friggin heli' control system is crap. Also, the hud isnt designed so good. Its hard to check your position on scene, check your constantly altering collective meter, and balance out your propello' movement all at once when everything is all over the screen. I hadda put things on standard for a while. I am ah-shamed.
is there a speed meter for the heli's? Also, how do you convert 1 knot into MPH? It's a pain in the arse. I ususually just turn off the HUD in jets and do it all by eye.

why does it make a difference if its in knots or mph?
btw knots are measured in nautical miles per hour which are around 6000 feet, a mile is 5280 feet

If you read the booklet for the game on page19 about the scramble alerts,it will tell you how you get them. Once you've reached the proper level of training, you will qualify to get these alerts.
They're challenging, frustrating at times, but totally alot of fun to get,you can even set the defense condition and time for your alerts.

Sorry dorry, but I have turn speeds in mind in MPH, not the other. Anyhow, staying on topic... Defcon, increasing the alerts, does certain new mission criteria come up that is harder to come by with lesser alerts?

Finally obtained the US-1A,not too bad to fly, even if it's olny a search and rescue aircraft,I got her from the search mission to find the downed US-1 with the OH-6D.
The scramble alert though for the US-1A was a bit tricky and I failed it big time,I managed to land it at the lake dam,but didn't quite know where to go with it.I ended up kissing the wall along the dam

scramble alerts. finally got them. im just confused about one thing, choosing which jet you go out in. Is it the last thing you select in alert hangar that you take off in? Cuz all i remember last night was looking breifly at the f-14 flatbed variation jet, just to look at, then leaving, BAM, a scramble alert triggers, and i'm in that jet with no weapons.
oh. my first scramble alert. I was in the F/A-18 (wish the superhornet was in this game), and I hadda take a pic of some foo' violating my airspace. I got up in the air and took pics of the enemy f/a-18 (camo) and then was told to shoot near the enemy to give the foo' the idea that we wasn't takin' no shiznit. I tried shooting by the enemy, but blammo. I somehow kilt the fool. The mission ended in failure and I heard the controller say it would be an international incident. Mwahaha. Stupid bullets hadda mind of their own.

Whatever aircraft you chose in the alert hanger, will be the aircraft you will use in the alert, however, there will be some alerts where you'll end up flying the C-1 or the US-1A.You may even fly helicopters for some alerts as well.
About those alerts where you take those kodak momments and then have to fire a warning shot, dont feel bad,I've failed many of them myself.I did manage to get through one where after getting the shots right,I was ordered to blow the sucker out of the air,I belive it was a MIG-21 who was my prey.

I finally have the scramble select unlocked and now can do the various scramble alerts when ever I choose. But there are two of them that are extremely harder than the others, the two that have UFO's.
The first one is at 6700ft and you really have to be quick to intercept it and get those pictures and pursue. I have tried this one and have managed only a 28 to 48 as top scores.I know it'll take alot of practice, but the key to this alert is timimng.
On the other UFO scramble, the one at 70,000ft,it seems almost impossible to get up to that altitude to catch this thing. The highest I have managed in my F-15J is about 42,000ft or a hair more...that's it.If it is impossible to get to that highth, then why have they included this mission
Well there's got to be some way and some aircraft that can do it,I've also tried the F-2A and the SU-37,but there too,no dice

I CANT GET THEM STOOPID WARNING SHOTS DOWN RIGHT! RAAAARGH! I purposely shot a hole heading point number away from the target, and still the controller gave me that whole 'international incident' thing. What iz I doin' wrong?
that 70,000 feet thing? how the heck do ya get that high? the f-15J and its variants are the best when it comes to alttitude, do to their uber engines. I dont have every jet yet, nor do i know what im missin'. (actually, i do know im missing the C-1 and f-16), but other than that, no clue. Perhaps there is a stealth jet youve yet to unlock that reaches that high?
oh yeah, in the game intro, i saw another big ass airjet i dont have. it looks like something used to put out forest fires. what's that, and canya get it?
also, with the scramble alerts, 80 and up is a clear score, but do you unlock anything for passing? due to my lack of marksmanship (stoopid bullets....) i havent passed a single one, and the one i did pass, which was just to spy on a refueler, i crashed when trying to land...
so howdja unlock scramble selectable missions?

Dont feel bad,I'am still having trouble with those alerts myself, they're a very big headache
As for the scramble select,I think you need to achive around 70 to 80 alerts before it becomes available.I might be wrong, but if I remember correctly,I think that's it

You're probably aiming too far away. Anywho, here are the requirements for warning shots -Distance is 1/10 of a mile away (on your HUD that means = or < .100) -Umm, i forget how many degrees left or right you need to be from it, but just make sure that you're no more than 10 degrees up or down from it.
My technique - Get w/in at least .100 of it, aim directly above or below it, then fire a shot, it'll take awhile for the radio operator to realize it, so just be patient. Then just do what she says.
Play it on Advanced, it's friggen impossible to hit Mach 2 on Beginner, plus you get better views on advanced.
US-1A... do scrambles
You unlock scramble missions by doing a certain amount of them. I've heard 70 and 80, but I got mine in 36 or so, but they have to be completed and cleared. Also, i did it on advanced, I dunno if that has anything to do with it.

The thing is that when I do get within that range distance and fire a short burst,I end up it's seems letting more off then I should.I try lightly press the fire button, but I always get off more then I am aiming for.

i'll try the aiming thing. ive been on STANDARD mode with everything so far.
Oh, and mike, that super high UFO thing, i got to 67,000 once, with the mighty F-15 agressor. *yes, this post is edited*
The f-15 series is indeed the fastest i have access to. I thought the russian jets were, but i read wrong. Anyhow, at 45,000 feet, you can reach mach 2 in order to unlock another jet, i think the fighter version of the unmaned UF one. (grey) I could still acheive overspeed at 45,000, also making mach 2 in the process. Try climbing vertically, with the G effects turned off (temporarily anyway), you should get to 60-70 in about 15 seconds, so try to lower your pitch sharply without stalling, and see if you can retain yer speed. You might need to aim the whole time, to get 3 quick shots to identify it.
I can gain 8000 for altitude immediately after take off with the F-2. What I do is overspeed while on the runway, and when i am forced to take off i put that heading right to 80 ASAP. When my speed drops down to 200-150, i level off at about 8000, then wait till my AB's bring speed up to 350 or higher, then repeat the vertical climb. I got the C-1 to 37,000 feet doing this. The friggin' C-1! ((And then i screwed up and stalled. stalling in the c-1 is very scaaaary. especially in the stormy levels in free flight. great to watch in replays!) Anyhow, i dont think that climbing method will work with the G effects and stalling enabled. I have everything set to standard, and have only cockpit, 3rd person, and cameraman views on 'speed dial'. That simplified trickery usually gets me where i want to go, but i dont know otherwise. That 80 degree climb might stall a person real fast, if the 9 G's isn't enough to black ya out...
anyhow, that's that! Hope one of them jets can make it that high. I hear advanced mode allows for more mach speeding, gotta try that.
