HilaryDuffGta,
Saints Row wasn't bought by UbiSoft it was bought by Koch Media alongside the purchase of Volition. Koch Media will announce in a few months what the future of Saints Row will be. One thing we know for sure is that Saints Row 4 development carried on regardless of THQ's situation as THQ's administrator Clearlake Capital put up the funds so that development wouldn't stop. Personally the only thing that will change about Saints Row 4 is the box art, where it previously said THQ it will now say Deep Silver who are Koch Media's publishing arm.
Just to sum up how the sales of THQ's assets went in case there is some confusion as the whole deal wasn't as clear as it could have been.
Sales;
- Koch Media bought Volition and Saints Row as a bundle while also buying the Metro 2033 licence.
- Sega bought Relic Entertainment including the Company of Heroes IP. It's unknown at this time if they bought the Warhammer licence.
- UbiSoft bought THQ Montreal as well as the South Park licence.
- Crytek bought the Homefront IP.
- Take-Two bought a new IP called Evolve from THQ's Turtle Rock Studios.
Acquisitions;
- Crytek acquired most of Vigil Games staff and created Crytek Boston.
- Take-Two acquired the WWE licence from THQ.
Unknown;
- The fate of the Darksiders IP is unknown as no one bought it. It is rumoured that Platinum Games are after it on the cheap.
- It's also unknown what is happening with Vigil Games 'Crawler' work in progress IP.
That about covers the sale of THQ. It's a sad end for one of the larger publishers out there. What was ultimately THQ's downfall was focusing on expensive gimmicks like uDraw which failed so badly, but also not having a Call of Duty. When you look at EA, Activision, Take-Two they all have a franchise or franchises that make the big bucks and THQ lacked that, the biggest IP they had was Saints Row and that wasn't big enough to keep them going unfortunately.
PS. I have seen the IGN video you speak of and the claim by a former developer may be accurate. The game has been in development a while so they could be ready to ship. I hope that if Volition and Koch Media think it's ready that bugs are kept to a minimum as while I expect bugs in a Saints Row product I don't want loads.
